CorkyJohn 808
why don't you just save yourself the hassle of having pups & buy something in from decent stuff? Pups are a right f**k on & unless the bitch is special its not worth the bother IMO Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
Well if she's fit theres no reason why not but I'd say make sure you've got about £400 in the bank just incase she requires a c section. Hopefully any spare pups would cover the cost anyway unless you're culling what you don't need Quote Link to post

BORDERSCOT 3,816
Had a russell x sealyham many many years ago and she bred some fine puppies in her time. She gave birth to 5 puppies in her 11th year and all reared perfectly and she tok no hurt at all. Got a pic somewhere - I'll see if I can find it and scan it in. If a bitch has bred puppies before she's five there's no reason she can't breed in her later years. Probs can come tho if you wait until she's 6-7-8 before you breed. Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,297
i would'nt bother mate my mate covered his 6 year old working whippet that was very fit and all he had was problems 2 out of 6 pups survived nearly lost the bitch and it cost him an arm and a leg it would of been cheaper to buy a full litter and he would'nt of had all the heart ache Quote Link to post

Joh of Arc 1
I can tell you right off that I know nothing about having an older bitch with a litter, and that it is one of those personal decisions you have to make yourself. What I CAN tell you is that I wish my JRT bitch had at least one litter. She died April 13, at 16 1/2, with no offspring, and she was a really great dog. If I could hop in a time machine I would do it differently. I'd heed the advice about the cost of a C section though, maybe your vet does it cheaper, or you could call around in advance for prices, in case. If she's a great bitch, if even only to you, you may want to risk it, knowing that it just may not be as easy on her (or your wallet) but the rewards are worth the risks and cost. Best to you, Joh Quote Link to post
