  1. 1. If you had to sell your adult fully working lurcher, realistically how much would you expect to get for him/her

    • Free to a good friend and good home where you can still see it work
    • £1-£100
    • £101-£200
    • £201-£300
    • £301-£400
    • £400-£999
    • £1000+

Im just talking about a good all rounder. Bit of ferreting/lamping/coursing etc. Not a top coursing hare dog. I understand that top coursing dogs go for silly money. I personally would just give to a friend. I would not expect a load of money for an all rounder dog.

A dog that can do bit off everything rabbit hare deer fox etc etc is a dog that as no price its priceless and should kepted why would you want to sell a dog that can do the lot?????

Im not saying I would, what I am saying is if you really had to. And i'm not selling my dog. I have just put this up in relation to the thread about someone selling a lurcher for £1500

i would give more than £150 for any dog anything over that is stupid in my eyes

only my views but a dog is what its worth to you as a hunting dog other peoples views on its ability might differ and in most cases do a bunny catching dog to a person who only do bunnys value of that type of dog would be far greater than the teeth and claw dogs some of us like i my self like a dog with plenty bite power and no fear so would rate it above all others in value you cant put a value on adog that is a team member and trys its hardest every time you go out and contributes to you days sport i have to say in my experiance that alot of people have difrent veiws and some are cash motivated and dogs that not worthy of calling hunting dogs these days going for fortunes lot of dreamers and bull s,,ters wi more dogs than batersea a dog for every mug who comes a calling  adog you trust is worth ten you dont know palls

Totally agree never been in the Market fr a dog bought 2 in the last 20 years 1 turned out real good the other dident it's always a gamble I no lads that wouldn't entertain a dog which won't take f and could kill 5 LE daytime it's what the individual wants I think I prefer just a bag filler 1 that try's the lads dog in question could be wrth the 1500 Pnd to the right man

Only ever bought three adult dogs, paid between 200-300 and one didnt suit me, the other two were everything they said on the tin. Wouldnt sell any of mine, IF i decided for whatever reason to rehome any of my dogs(that are working) it would be gratis, money and working dogs dont mix well, given a couple of dogs away to mates for free. Far too many chancers/messers and inbred yokels selling dogs willy nilly that in truth are a bag of shite and should be fertiliser.....

if i had to get rid of my alfie dog id rather cull him than sell/gift him to some one .... sounds harsh but the dog does what i want it to do and probably wouldnt suit other people so why risk putting that dog on the peddler/dealer merry go round ... even good mates can/could do you a bad turn with a gifted dog

Im not against shooting a dog if its no good or too old in the wright circimstance, but what you just said smacks of real selfishness.

if I cant have him no one can, so ill snuff a healthy dog thats done nothing wrong out. iv known boys who have pulled chickens heads of rather than give them away incase someone ende up with a better bird than them. I dont have nothing to do with them no more myself.

Well said baldrick, f*****g terrible attitude, shoot the dog, should be ashamed.

The dearest I've ever paid for a pup is £150. When I first started I paid £50, which when you think of inflation etc, probably the same. Back then a GALLON of fuel was £1.80, a bag of chips 15p, a fish supper £1.20, a bottle of irn bru 28p, a bottle of wreck the house juice £2.75.... Think you get the picture lol.

Btw, baldrick, I know a few guys who choke there chicken on a regular basis too and they are wankers as well :tongue2:

Bought and sold working collies for lots of money. Paid £750 for one in 1984 - and it was one of the best collies I've ever had and also paid fair sums for what amounted to little more that the pastoral equivalent of Mad Frankie Fraser. Sold some good collies for fair amounts too. If a dog is expensive is it a guarantee that it's going to do what you want time and time again? Don't suppose it is.

If I'd ever had to get rid of any of my lurchers/terriers I might've just given it to someone who lived as far away from me as possible and someone that I was never going to see again as I might just hate hearing how well the dog's doing and having a regular reminder of what I was missing. That's a bit selfish eh?
