hinchy10 0
thanks much appreciated, i thought it may be easier to gain a bit of permission instead of my turning up with dogs and ferrets, thought it may make me look a bit more reputable knowing the police had authorised me first. thanks is this true or is it my newbie brain telling me otherwise lol Quote Link to post

hinchy10 0
thanks much appreciated, i thought it may be easier to gain a bit of permission instead of my turning up with dogs and ferrets, thought it may make me look a bit more reputable knowing the police had authorised me first. thanks is this true or is it my newbie brain telling me otherwise lol thats your newbie brain get yourself insurance and talk to the farmers, as if the farmer dont trust you with ferrets and nets, you really think he's going to want you walking around with a loaded gun its not that they dont trust us round here, its the FACT that there is so many teenagers hammering the land constantly doing just as much damage as the vermin that alot of the farmers locally here just have zero tolerance towards everyone, just like alot of other places the minority spoil it for the majority of us. COMPO 54
I see where you are coming from with the idea that farmers may be more receptive to someone who has a gun. I can see it working both ways, they distrust anyone with lurchers fact, so turning up with a running dog will usually result in NO, asking for ferreting with nets is usually the bestway in, use locators show you are reliable and turn up, do a good job, dont leave a mess etc.... however i find having access and use of a gun can help gain more permission and is another string in your bow for certain opportunities, some farmers are anti-ferret but will allow shooting, some wont allow shooting til they know you, most (but not all) are very anti running dog (as mentioned above the minority spoiling it for the majority) i doubt that a farmer will look at your sgc and think well the old bill let him have a gun he cant be that bad........but its a useful tool and can open some doors Quote Link to post
Colster 1
I think it has to help the farmer take you seriously if you can offer to use the best method because you have access to lots of them. I've ferreted land where we just used purse and long net, nets and dogs, nets and guns and (although he's sold it now), nets and Harris Hawk. It does show you're serious about it if you can show you're using the right tools for the job. Quote Link to post
