adecent kill at 40yds rifle is more a pcp type of shooting mate, spring guns take some learning due to recoil from spring movement, whilst the inert pcp action lends to super accurate shooting especially using bi pod, shot placement to kill zones on rabbits corvids etc is extendable out to 50 plus yds, maybe further with .177 on a good day  where as rule of thumb with springers knocking out same power was always around 30 yds, mind a good shooter can take this as far as he likes within reason

BSA aint what it used to be last one I bought was the Lightning Tatctical, was a bag of shite to be honest , looked the part, but cheap and raspy, was not overly impressed with T10 Scorpion pcp either, weihrauch much better rifle,I would take a second hand weihrauch over any brand new webley, bsa gamo etc HW 95k a great rifle for days sport, light accurate, mint silencer, easy to upgrade to smooth out firing cycle and recoil.

pellets size well thats ersonal choice, as a kid I likes .22 now I cannot see past .177 :victory: PCP are excellent and imho rival the .22 rf as a pest control tool, in the right hands leathal :gunsmilie: they do however somerwha take the fun out of learning to shoot air rifles properly

I never liked the Lightning, and sold it on. I'd look at a BSA Supersport, fantastic gun.

I have a BSA Mercury which fires brilliant and accurate at 35 yards, its .22 but i wish i'd had .177

The HW90 is a great gun as is the HW80 but both very heavy i found.

Of all the best guns, i think it has to be the AirArms ProElite, but difficult to find a second hand one.

pro elite, very nice rifle mate, am I right in thinking its the advance on the TX range, sidelever fixed barrel? very good guns saves you paying to hae em smoothed out, your right about the HW 90 80's heavy if you aint built for them  the new BSA rifles are not a patch on theold airsporters , mercuries etc and web;ley well thats another shameful story, good british firm sold down the river

ps, why not simply rebarrel the mercury to .177 mate, bsa are good to deal with for parts direct or there is always chambers I rebuilt a Fienwerkbau using bits from chambers

Thanks for that info, very helpful. My mate is a gunsmith, i never really thought of switching the Mercury to .177

Yes the ProElite is the advance on the TX range. My mate had a ProElite but sold it on when he was made redundant (regretted it ever since ).

I had forgot about the AirSporter, i tried a mates AirSporter, it was fantastic. I'd have loved one of those.

My mate the gunsmith serviced a Fienwerkbau, and that was also a great gun.

As you say, the older BSA guns are what to look for.

ps Your not Howard are you ?

If so pm me Thanks.
