MikeTheDog 153
Bitter Apples!....Used to stop children chewing their nails and also available in a spray to stop dogs chewing what they shouldn't. Never used it myself but it might be worth a try if you don't want to use the after shave the great aunt gave you last Christmas... Edited May 7, 2011 by MikeTheDog Quote Link to post

ferret100 47
I have a jill and when I first got her she bit and drew blood at every opportunity. Had to handle her with thick gloves for the 1st month. Everytime she saw/smelt flesh she attacked. Using afershave/vinegar isn't a great idea, that teaches the ferrets that hands are unpleasant. After all ferrets test everything with their teeth. Being handled and being left with a hideous (and hazardous) taste in their mouth doesn't bode well in teaching them to trust people! Everyone has different opinions, but this is mine. Get Ferretone, or better yet, Ferrets Formula off ebay. Use gloves, drop a few drops onto the back of the glove and put it to your ferret. Let her lick it, get a nice taste/experience and keep going until she happily licks the treat off the different parts of the glove. Then glove your writing hand (just incase!) and put the oil on the ungloved hand (back of hand first!) let her lick the oil off your skin, then palm, fingers etc once she's settled. Hopefully now she will associate hands with a great experience and you can start to fuss her/pick her up using the oils. Everytime you give her the oil use a certain noise/word. This way she will learn that it equals a nice treat, and she will run to you. She will come round in time and may prove to be the best worker you've had. Best of luck. Quote Link to post

dave1600d 35
well looks like theres lotsa answers......dyou go down the "im a hardman and kill anything that dont work" route? or do you think "perhaps it deserves a chance" route,,,,,,id personally choose the second one,,but then again im not hard,,,,,give it a chance with the aftershave/ferretone whatever,,,,,,,if you kill it,it may be the worst thing you could do,,hopefully she will come right for you mate,,,,,,ATB DAVE Quote Link to post
stubby 175
its weird the different answers the poster gets, had this been a dog rather than a ferret, that was biting anyone that went near it, would the post be getting the same replies. have to say, if you have tried calming it to no avail, Id be inclined to cull it, theres no place in my home for ANY ANIMAL that bites, would want to take that chance, as we/you do come into contact with others, either in the home/garden, or whilst out ferreting, it dont look good to onlookers if you put on a welders glove before picking up a fert, and I hate to see it latch onto someone else I have 13 ferts at end of garden, I let any visitors walk down there without my presence, as I know 100% non of my ferts bite, rabbits, yes, people,no Quote Link to post
