pianoman 3,587
Hi Sean/Yorkshirehunter. I can only repeat what you've been told already. Best way to stuff up a good barrel is to put that prometheus nylon coated crap down it. I never take the shooting monthly press seriously now. They give great reviews and thumbs-ups to all manner of junk because they want the manufacturers of this tosh to keep spending their advertising revenue with the publishers and keep all the nice freebies they get sent. On the subject of permission. I've spoken with Ian, my mate who owns the farming estate I shoot over. He's told me that no further permission for hunting is being extended to anyone for the foreseeable future. There are enough trespassers, air rifle hunters and shooters in a shotgun syndicate coming on and, frankly he's getting fed up with some of them leaving litter, vandalising the young trees for hide builds, cutting down mature trees to clear for gun positions and generally messing the place up. You are welcome to visit and I'll give you a day's coaching in field number one where I have my target range, but this cannot be a regular thing. Sorry mate, but I hope you understand. The last word doesn't rest with me, unfortunately. Simon. Edited May 8, 2011 by pianoman Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
like i said, i dont go on farmers land. id be happier if i could get some where, but i live in a city and farms aint the richest of pickings. Okay you don't go on farmers land; so if your not on farmers land; and your not on private land where you have permission to shoot; then you are actively seeking to be shot by an armed response unit If you aint got permission, then you are looking at a minimum mandatory five years in custody; thats IF the police don't put holes in you first You are also giving the anti's extra ammo for getting airgun-shooting outlawed. Just like that w@anker Michael Ryan and the tosser who shot those litttle kids in Dunblane. Get lawfull permission or get the feck off this forum and stop giving the rest of us law abiding shooters a bad name (very sorry to be blunt, but I feel it's needed in this case). I sincerely hope you wind up looking down the business end of a H&K MP5 or the Glock's as I did (and I HAD lawfull permission). You won't go anywhere else without permission AND insurance! There are many people I know that live in cities that make the effort to gain permission. A friend of mine also lives in Bradford; yet he shoots only on land that he has permission. So whats your excuse? It took 2 years before I got a written permission; Sure I had verbal for over 9 months, but I refused to shoot it until I had it in writing. Simon is a decent guy and he will help anyone out, but you have to do your part and work for both your own good and that of the whole shooting community, just as he, I and the rest of the responsible hunters do PM me and I'll send you the template for a letter that I use. By the way, I don't yet have permission on a farm my 1st written permission was a cemetery Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
hi sean, just another point mate- any airgun crime is being seized upon by the press in order to extend the already draconian shooting laws covering us mate. you'll just be handing out more reason to get the sport liscenced and tied up in a lot more red tape than it is already, and therefore helping ruin it for the entire airgun community, on top of getting yourself nicked and all thats been said already. i now this sounds extreme, but believe me, you're just adding fuel to the anti airgun fire mate. cheers, wurz Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
Good on you Sean..... WE understand it's hard...we've all been there. It was by no means deformation of your character, just the way the attitude was towards what you were doing, as being a case of "I'm gonna do what I like when I like!". All we're trying to do is help you on the right path then you wont have anything to worry about. If you do a search on the forums you'll find info about how to get permission, the forms you need, advice on insurance and how to conduct yourself etc Darryl Quote Link to post

You lot clearly know a vast more on what i should and shouldnt be doing after all, im relativley new to the sport and i should realise that it will take time in geting permissons and just take the time when i havent to get more target practice in, and maybe go out stalking WITHOUT my rifle. i guess i came on here for advice and help, and it will pay off if i take everything on board. Thanks for teaching me a lesson Quote Link to post
TheYorkshireHunter 2
from crap pellets, to how do i go about insurance? i guess the land owner will have no qualms in shooting if your covered, but confused.com dont seem to quote it haha is it a case of joining BASC? im going to open a new topic called TIPS AND ADVICE JUST FOR SEAN! ATB Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
hi sean, BASC are good and joining them adds another voice to good shooting promotion, although the countryside alliance also do insurance,as do BASA(although i've heard conflicting reports on how reliable they allegedly are). i'm sure some of the other lads'll have more info for you pal cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Hi Sean, I'm so glad you've listened, I know I was brutal in my last reply, but that was as Darryl said, the way your attitude came across  Guess you would end up wasting your time doing the course if you wound up with a section one offence under your belt! Regarding insurance, I'm with BASA and have been for 3 years but each year I am getting more and more disgruntled with them and will be taking my business elsewhere when it's up for renewal next time. I am still awaiting my documents from last year At the moment BASC are a little out of my price range, so I shall be looking at CA (Countryside Alliance) and one that was recomended to me yesterday by a shooter on my own forum. These seem to offer as good a price as BASA but the advantage for me is the cover notes and documents are emailed instantly, have a look here http://www.ccc3.org.uk/home All the best Sean good luck with finding a permission, eventually you will find one Tony Quote Link to post
