hi guys probably not your thing but could do with a bit of advice.i am a tree surgeon and was called out to a tree today that had fallen over.in the tree was five chicks (magpie) they had spilled out of the nest but were still alive.when i aproached they all opened there mouths they are taking food and water.if any one has any advice or can give them a home pm me.i know you are not suposed to keep wild animals but my choices were cull or leave on the ground for preditors or help.perhaps i have done the wrong thing but there were no sighns of the magpies as dusk came so i intervened.

use them for airgun practise or put your foot on them if nobody wants them for call birds

I used to have a Jackdaws when I was lad! they was cracking pets when I was kid and would follow me everywhere. they would follow me on my pushbike and also to school if they saw me walking down the road.

It was no different with the magpies! a pal had a Magpie and another had a Jay, the Magpie tamed up just like the Jackdaws but the jay for some reason wasn't quite so tame. personaly I would rear them in a creche if you are going to let them go at a later date so they Imprint on each other .

i have dispatched many magpies in my time,i guess its out of respect for a very worthy adversary.i was hoping that a couple of bird fanatics would be interested.as it turns out it looks like i am hand rearing them myself.all five are going well and thanks to the guys who gave help and useful comments.i understand that the nature of these birds is to kill song birds and destroy nests.when the day comes i am sure some will be humanely dispatched but whilst they are helpless they shall be cared for.the magpie is one of our most cunning pests, and they are successful at what they do and for that reason and because they do not destroy crops they shall be given a chance.

they are still open to a good home.

:clapper::clapper: so would I! doubt weather they would have many feathers left traveling at that speed.

when I was a lad I used to bike dopwn the road on my Cowhorn pushbike and the jackdaw would follow me roof to roof glideing down and landing on my shoulder, I even remember walking out of school to get the bird home when my Jackdaw was sitting on the school roof :whistling:.
