BAD FEET ,FLAT OUTSTRETCHED WEBBED,OPEN TOES LIKE FLIPPERS,NAILS LIKE FREDDY KRUGERS GLOVE. NIGHT,N,DAY I had a 3/4 bred collie greyhound in the 's (my avatar pic) who had big flat open feet. He was a great dog but after a few hard days/nights he needed a few off. I had a half x collie grey at the same time who had top notch feet high, tight and compact who would run every night and never take any hurt. I have a 3/4 bred 8 month old puppy at the minute who has great looking feet. That's a good description of what to look for in dogs' feet 3 TURNS. Quote Link to post
BOLIO1 1,078
These two Handcock bred collie lurchers were owned by two friends of mine in the 's. Tanner the red dog was 3/4 greyhound 1/4 beardie (sired by Jake) and Bess was 3/4 greyhound 1/8 beardie 1/8 border collie. Tanner was used in Ireland for hares and after about three seasons every toe on his front feet was pointing in a different direction, so it's not easy to predict how well a certain type of foot will stand the rigours of steady work just by looking at the shape of them when they start out. Bess's feet lasted longer but she was used mostly as a bushing rabbiting dog so was never going to suffer the same damage. Quote Link to post
whip x grey 276
ive got a fawn racer,,,,i had too retire,,,,,at 6months onwards,,,,i had him chasing rabbits/ and schooling to race,,,when he was over a year old 15/16 month,,,,i thought i had a super star at racing ,plus a wee rabbit dog i rember looking at his feet ,,,when he was growing up and learning his trade,,,,they feet look strong i said myself , i dont think ill have any problems with him,,,,so i thought ( chasing/catching rabbits ,,,which was 5 days a week,,,out excising him,,,,no problems ,,,,,,,racing in summer ,,,,bang,, toe off,,,,after that nothing but problems,,,,now retired,,,,,the presure off the racers feet are emennse,,,in summer mouths running when ground is solid and stopping distance and dog piling up on each other,,,,,its just bad luck,,,,,ill never have front toe off again as after that day,,,,it was down hill,,,,,,back toe maybe,,,but not the front unless 110% have to i dont think we know,,,,till somthing happens to feet,,,then it goes tits up,,,,,,,,,never had problems with other two dogs,,,,,yet i did think fawn one was going to be the one with stronger feet,,,in the end he didnt and i was so wrong Quote Link to post

whip x grey 276
its a good rule off thumb cat like feet but if greyhound run on sand,,,,,the rule off thumb,,,,,is gone,,,,,,,,ull find wrist problems and broken legs are the norm,,,,,,,for them now me as a whip x grey racer,,,,,,,dew claws are almost a must to have off as pup,s due to them still running hard summer ground ( grass with no chance off rain ) the further south the harder the ground can be where greyhounds dont bother,,,,as thats not main problem,,,,they have to bother with anymore,,,,,,,,iam not saying there not tough at what they do,,,,as in some events,,,,and there speed,,,,they do take it to the next level,,,,,breaking barriers,,,,,going beyond there bodys cappabillite,,,,when it comes too speed,,,,, ( when i was a young boy,,,,they also ran summer hard tracks,,,,grass /mud and straw,,,,,i never got the idea off straw,,,,as there was hardly none on track,,,,,just mudd and stones showing threw,,,on the old flapping tracks Quote Link to post
STUNTMAN 552
Had some collie/DH/IWH dogs a while back that were pretty bad to LOOK at. Not my Idea of of a cat like foot. But they never really got injured. As of late some Staghounds are showing some bad feet but they dont last long if hunted much out here. Quote Link to post
