At it again tomorrow morning.

Now then,

**EDITED TO ADD THAT I HAVE JUST REALISED IN THE TITLE I SAID 'TOMORROW MORNING'. I MEANT THIS MORNING, AND HAVE NO IDEA WHY I WROTE TOMORROW. WHOOPS.**

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I was out again this morning. Took the R10 to my permission that has a little rookery and several rabbits on it!

Today, I arrived at 6.45ish. Just as yesterday, rifle loaded and passenger window open as soon as I entered the drive. 10 yards in, my first opportunity arose, and the .22 Falcon Accuracy Plus connected with the base of the bunnies skull. It rolled over, gave a kick and lay still. I left it, and crept forward in my trusty Volvo! Another 15 yards, and a couple more bunnies out grazing. As I lifted the rifle they made a move towards cover. They both stopped just outside the nettles. Choosing the biggest one, I dropped it cleanly at about 25 yards.

So off to a good start then! 2 in the bag and I wasn't even out of the car yet! I parked up, and as soon as I was out of the car, my next shot presented itself. 30 yard bunny. Standing shot, bunny rolled over with not so much as a kick. Satified that it was dead, I turned my attention to the rooks! I dropped the fist one I could get a bead on. I felt on fire! I'd been on the property for less than 5 minutes, had fired 4 shots and had four in the bag!

I collected my rook, and then went to pick up the rabbits before settling down for action. I went back for the third bunny, and it had completely disappeared!! I assumed that it must have had a nervous kick and managed to kick itself into the nettles, so I thought rather than disturb any more, I'd leave it and have a good look just before I packed up.

Over the next 15 minutes, I dropped another 4 rooks - one of which, again got stuck up high in the tree - just three feet away from the one that did the same thing yesterday. I tried to get a photo of the two dead in the tree, but only had my phone with me, and they were high up so they couldn't be made out unfortunately.

I then settled down under a tree and hoped that some more bunnies would appear. After 10 minutes or so, rooks started dropping into a tree within range - but all on the other side of the tree, none of which would present a shot. I was struggling to concentrate on the bunnies with such a cacaphony on noise from the rooks! I went to have a look in the other trees where a shot would be more likely, but the only black 'uns there were the two dead ones.

The only bit of action then was a woody, which I missed - not enough hold under and the pellet struck the tree trunk directly behind it's head.

After another 20 minutes with no action, I set about collecting up the bag for a photo; it was still early but I wanted to get home and get the dog out for a walk before my lad woke up and distacted me from work!

Just as I was collecting them, I spotted another brancher. I missed it first time, hitting a twig just in front of it. Being a brancher, it didn't give it the wings, so I adjusted my shot and dropped it with a clean headshot.

Time to take the photo and get on with the day!

Cheers for reading, hopefully I'll be out again soon enough so I'll have something more for you to read!

nice bag matethumbs.gif the ONLY crow i ever managed to shoot somehow disappeared!!icon_eek.gif was one of the best shots i ever made as well. well done taking yours mate. the steep angles you need to consider when they're right at the top of trees makes for very challenging shots i think.

Nice shooting Ron, decent rabbits as well, forgot to mention, on the permission I got you sometimes woodies land on the airstrip, so the best place to set up is really by the telegraph pole as if the woodies come in you can just turn round, enough said?? Put an arial view of it on my thread so you can have a decent look at it!

Does seem to happen like that sometimes! I remember shooting a carrion crow of some power lines with my HW95K several years ago. It swung round, and hung by it's feet upside down from the wire for about 2 minutes (no twitching or anything), then dropped towards the ground. It fell to about 3 feet off the ground and then just FLEW AWAY! I've never seen anything like it before or since.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

Moley, thanks for that mate.

Ron, number 1 that does sound needy  But yes you did grab a cracking bag.

There was a good story in this months shooting sports about a fella who shot a hare & popped him in his game pocket. After a while he shot another & whilst bending down to collect the second, the first one, suddenly ressurected, jumped out of his pocked & made good his escape!
