superfurryanimal 91
hi all , don t know what to do, came home from work today to find my bull cross lying next to a dead cat in my back garden !!!! so what you might think,. but 4 houses overlook my garden and i ve seen the owner of the cat looking very distressed looking for it. , and to make matters worse its one of them cross bred big stripey ones that cost a bloody fortune. anybody know where i stand legally about a cat wandering into my garden and not getting out, don t want to fall out with the neighbours but know i m going to get the blame anyway. sell it to the local chinese ! then go round a few days later showing real concern and how awfull it must be to loose your pet cat and tell them to get a nice bottle of wine to drown they're sorrows and order themselfs a meal for two ! Wullz 408
Same thing happened to me on.....my auld staff found next doors cat mouching about my garage. (Had two injured sparrowhawks in there in cages.) He dealt with it most severely. The noise was amplified as you can imagine, so they knew what had happened to Smarty(!) and reported me. Luckily the plod who was involved is a mate and a shooter/fisher, so when he arrived he told them the law on the matter, if the cat wanders onto your property, then it has to look out for itself. You have nothing to worry about mate, they cant have it both ways. Right to roam and you have to protect it as well? No danger. Course they wont speak to you again, but do you really want to have a relationship with cat lovers?

Malt 379
If it happened to me, the last thing I'd do would be posting on here about it like I was writing to 'Dear Deirdre' for advice.. Man the f**k up, and tell the owners what's happened, or shut the f**k up and get rid of the evidence! Anybody'd think you'd started this thread to boast about your dog killing somebody's pet pussy cat in a back handed way.. I can't genuinely believe that a genuine dog man would feel the need to ask for advice like this on an open forum after an incident like this..
Scallywag 78
As others have said, there's no come back on you or your dog if it kills a cat in your garden. And since cats are allowed to roam they tend to have free but shorter lives, fair enough. But whether or not we like cats (I don't)their owners usually love them as much as we love our dogs. So I would bite the bullet and visit my neighbour and explain what had happened to her cat. I'd sympathise deeply and say how sorry I am she's lost her cat, but would not apologise for my dog killing it - that's just nature, the cat was probably on a hunting trip itself. But if I lost one of my dogs and never found out what happened, it would haunt me, I'd much prefer to know what happened so I could come to terms and move on. So for me, sympathetic voice, deep regret, bunch of flowers, no more mo less.

I have a question what if the dog gets the cat on the park.
