most inportant dog to you!

Recommended Posts

A greyhound/ collie x called susie that belonged to my oldest friend who sadly passed away recently,

spent every weekend with him and susie ferreting and lamping from around 6 years old ( i too was chief rabbit carrier). She gave me the start and was a good dog she took everything but fox ( was'nt into anything we couldn't eat) I used to count the days down to fri night when he would pick me up with the dog in the van for a nights lamping, the next day out with the ferrets or fishing, and sunday the same, they were truly happy daysthumbs.gif

exactly mate i try not to get into threads or discussions on numbers it just causes friction an it has no bearing on the dog at all in my opinion when i go out i go to enjoy my self not compete

have to say the most important dog to me is the pup im getting ready for next season, shes a 1/2 whippet 1/4 saluki 1/4 colie 7months old and showing plenty of promise and if your talking about dogs

Seems as if we could have one of our dogs back it would be our first one going by the answers, me as well, maybe because they were the ones that planted the seed

Your probably right there mate, every night or day was like an adventure back then,

maybe people forget the original feeling/buzz in their pursuit for the perfect dog, instead of still just enjoying being out there and doing it.................

Although he wasn't my first lurcher, the first dog i idolised was a dog called Rocky. Thousands of miles we travelled, all on foot and although he was slow, i caught quite a bit with him, but alot of it was unsporting, but which 13 year old thinks about being sporting? That was back in the days when catching one rabbit gave me a real buzz.....a moment in time that can never be repeated or returned to. JD

Mines would be a wee deerhound whippet called (Bitch)got her when she was about 2 year old fella had her for hares but she had problem with her left leg when turning so l got her for ferreting.

Didn't think her leg was that bad when turning because she caught me loads off rabbits and few hares in her time but she was great on foxes.

1st time l found this out was when were out digging one morning and she went missing thought she got smell something and took off.

After an hour dig when we got down to the terrier there she was in grabs with the fox she did this on a number off times and we actually dig her once.

Hit by car at 4 year old when out doing cover

weve had threads on the best dogs weve seen perform or the worst so i thought about this, what is the dog that got you into dogs or the one that sticks in your mind for any reason doesnt have to be the best in terms of catch rate etc not interested in that

two dogs come to mind when you mention this topic one was a rather skinny whippet type dog ugly as but boy could he catch the bunny and hare at the time i got in the early 90s of me mate who had just got him of a asian shop keeper who could no longer keep above shop due to health and safty people it hadnt done a thing but it took to lamping like duck to water honestly mate went to scotland for aweek up lairg with palls got 15 bunny 5 hares and aroe and this dog looked like cruelty case he was in the then shooting news with the hares he got still got the pics the second dog was my hancock dog tarn my first pup i trained from scratch what a brainy dog he would do all that a gun dog would then go out at night lamping and turn its hand into the lurcher mode here is just a example you could lamp ducks on ponds and send him in water then shoot over him and he would fetch duck back then very next slip would be on fox which he bring back and kill at your feet ive no need to bull these dogs up got the proof video and pics ps not to mention the fred my once in alife time dog a bull x fox and out else slayer these dogs long dead but never forgotten r i p :victory:
