BORDERSCOT 3,816
I'd have the 3/4 bred collie greyhound pictured in my avatar back in a minute if I could??? Got him from Hancock - he was a Taffy puppy) in 1986 and he died when he was 11. He did the lot. He wasn't the best hare dog in the world for sure but he always gave his all, great lamper though, had treble figure fox count and numerous deer had a great nose and provided me with more fun and thrills than I ever could have imagined. Didn't have the best feet (big and flat)had a strange disposition, wasn't too great with kids and bit my wife more than once, hated terriers and strangers but he was brave and loyal to the end. I was never as close and have never been as close to a dog since he died. Not going through that again. I still miss him loads. Quote Link to post

Snifferboy 659
I first got hooked watching my mates dog Monster or 'Mo' for short, he was a Grey Saluki Bull x Whippet Beddy Grey Bull so I was told! It wasn't a dog that I saw take large numbers or anything like that, I just liked it's style after it retrieved a rabbit or caught a roe buck it always rolled around on the floor what ever the weather for a couple of minutes well chuffed with itself wagging its tail like a mad thing, cracked me right up! He once caught a rabbit off the back of the landrover reversing into a gate way just as the brake lights went on then jumped back in dropped the rabbit and rolled around like a tw@t for a couple of minutes as we drove up the road. Sadly both the dog and my mate are no longer with us but they both got me hooked and would be useful to have around now when I haven't a clue what I should be doing with my dog!!! Quote Link to post

Neal 1,869
I've always thought of myself as a bit of a glass half empty person but I'm pleased to say that, in general, I prefer my more recent dogs. I'd find it hard to choose between Rust (the kelpie in my avatar) and Scout (his tiny great neice). Scout, despite being pure kelpie, acts like I'd expect a small terrier x whippet to act; though having never owned one I'm just speculating. She's into everything and is very forward. Rust always makes me think of the kind of dogs you see in films or on tv eg Rin Tin Tin, Greyfriar's Bobby, Jerry Lee etc, rather than a "real" dog. I think my affection for him can also be attributed to the fact that he was only about ten months old when my mum died so I ploughed all my time and affection into him to help me through it. He was even the best man at my wedding five years ago. Quote Link to post
mushroom 13,004
Miss this lad gave me the bug for running dogs Dan, that is the spitting image of my dog...... Fec me thats my Trevor Mine would be mushroom my god was he a right tw@t pattxjack tenacious and would dig into a rabbit hole never slowed down always does his job, untrustworthy around anything classed as game (yes he was stock broke) but watching him is/was always fun. the ex has him now and he's at the grand age of 13. and still catching best thing I ever saw and the biggest pain was traipsing nearly 4 miles to find the fuucker after he took after 4 deer in the lakes (pre-ban of course) he was happy Quote Link to post

watchman 256
the best rabbiting bitch i had was lurcher x lurcher,24 tts, cost me £20 off a mate, more of a goodwill gesture than anything she was absolute mustard on the bunnies and didnt miss many, would split a hedge to get her bunny, live to hand everytime, obediant without fault which for my early training standards was bloody amazing, what happened, went out with a lad and his bull x,within a few weeks i had my own pup 14 months later she was taking fox single handed but the lurcher just would not entertain them for love nor money, fox after fox she completely ignored them so i sold her to a lad just for the bunnies,BIG MISTAKE and honestly regretted it ever since would kill for a bitch like that now, Quote Link to post
