secretagentmole 1,701
After convincing myself that the X2 was set up and ready to go I decided to have a late afternoon at the permission. Not a lot about, the wind seems to scare the bigger ones more than the little ones, so a few kits were shot in the paddock (now with horses in, though they were at the far side, trying to stay out of the sometimes very strong blasts that hurtled in from the North) and moved out of that pasture. Now for once, Mole had done some advance planning. One of the 6 foot high earth dumps on the track overlooks a good portion of the paddock, but is currently covered in now 3-4 foot high nettles. Knowing I had been clumping about I clumped a path up it and some of the nettles at the top. Now I had a sniper position that stank of nettles! Using the lined NBC meant I could lie on the bed of nettles without being stung to blazes. I started patrolling, going slowly up and down the track, taking the odd kit out here and there, unfortuantely the damned leylandii in the grounds of the house had pigeons in Then I saw a pair in the field, crouching I moved behind the nettly knoll and scaled my breaten track to the top, The bipod was extended so I set the X2 down and got a bead on the first, 40 yards away. Lined up, waited, made sure, pulled the trigger and thwack, disco dance. His friend shot to the edge of the bank and sat there. So not wishing to deprive him of the same sensatin his mate had just had, I lined up again, got a good aim, pulled the trigger and thwack, dance number 2! Waited for about half an hour but no more showed, so I picked my way down the knoll (rabbit holes are invisible under nettles you know so I took it slowly), went down the track and picked my way through the nettles and brambles, across the dry ditch and picked up my brace! Then pratso here realised he had left the camera at home so unfortunately no photos! Two keepers and about 8 small kits, though the kit numbers show no signs of abating! No myxi yet, these were good clean rabbits, about a year old and both bucks. So feeling chuffed I packed up, reminded myself to put the damned camera in the bag and went home. Thanks Simon, though if any rifle is going to have Lee in the name it will be red with the Confedrate flag on it! I wonder if it would be any use crushing nettles and then rolling on them in the camo though? Good scent mask perhaps.... Quote Link to post

Not sure about rabbits, probably wont make a difference either way, but you wont smell like a nettle patch, you will smell like a nettle patch being stomped through, possibly the opposite of what you want. And for bunnykin, it wouldn't cover the smell of your cigs anyway. Annnnnd they obviously are not smelling you as it is, so the self flagellation with nettles maybe ott. Quote Link to post
