SMART DOG 340
fitness and conditioning the dog for the job is the bee all and end all for any breed.....I have seen a few decent collie crosses able to hold there own behind a good winter hare field or fen when they are fit enough to do so but have seen many fail due to lack of condition/fitness.... but i do believe the saluki and saluki crosses are what WAS needed for out and out coarsing well that is my opinion for what its worth Quote Link to post

stubblebasher 150
iv seen a lot of none saluki lurchers run hares and do well not saying they could do 5 or 6 mins but seen alot that could do 3 mins and few that could do 4 or slightly more. they also seem to recover a lot quicker than the saluki types maybe because of not having that 6 mins in them but could do a lot of work in the day and in ireland were better to stay on the hare around cover and fences as anyone over will tell yea we have no shortage of a lot of these dogs are still in alot of the dogs that are around today but most if not all would have saluki blood in them now If a non saluki blooded dog could run for three or four minutes , how many times during the day could he this ? Once i reckon , and then hed be rolling around in a pool of throth , blowing out of his arse !! He certainly is not going to have the recovery rate of a saluki bred dog, neither is he going to be as good around cover . Its not just about staminer , its about style , controlled pace , and coursing sence , which the saluki has loads of naturally . You cant beat the right type of coursing dog on big or small land .When was the last time a normal lurcher won a match !!?? when was the last time a match was ran on small type tight field,s with fence,s and cover mate pistol pete01 from thl had a wee bitch with no saluki in her make up and flattened long ear,s fast and pressure all the time didnt give them a minute preban Theres been plenty of matches in small fields with fast saluki types . They can also run the big land where pistol petes bitch would be limited . Theres no need to run coursing dogs these days which are limited to big or small land Quote Link to post

boyo 1,398
hy penny yes i did take a litter out of her to jason bradfords dog and they ran well or the few i saw run did and innan fine thanks and the dogs are .got 2 youngsters here one a first cross i bred myself and a 13 month one out of the same sire tony burns full saluki fingers crossed for good things to come hoping to get up with s next season be good to meet up with old freinds and club members on the feild instead of only at the show. and to those that think only saluki crosses can run 3 mins once. my bitch took 3 out of 3 more than once on the big land but did have a terrific mouth .could she live with a saluki hybrid for stamina no of course she could not but it never stopped her catching a lot of hares given fair law .and in front of plenty of people to see including a few members on here. 1 Quote Link to post

Theres no need to run coursing dogs these days which are limited to big or small land to answer your question the ones im talking about could run 3 or 4 in a day and they would not be rolling in apool of anythink they would be looking for more but it may have a lot to do with the fact that their was not a lot of greyhound in their make up either and to answer your next question where did they get the speed from the same place they got their stay from i thought the question asked was how would these dogs perform not in matches or comp but for a mans own sport their is a few men on here that also seen some of these dogs run im sure they will agree Quote Link to post
baldockbanks courser 598
who would want to run a match on small shitty fields with bad fences ect ? why what,s wrong with it is it more of a challenge to a dog that just need,s to run for a long time let me no the problem of running matches in small feilds is FAIRNESS one dog may get 2 or 3 runs where his hare runs in the feild and the the other dogs hare gets to cover quick not giving the dog chance to shine. At least on big open land theres no excuse for either dog alough theres always a bit of lucky in a match as your running a hare and not your opponent. when you say feilds "STUBBLE" I bet you mean newmarket, royston and that kind of land that dogs have matched on in the past as opposed to the vast fens, but as you say a decent saluki lurcher will kill hares in newmarket. but I think theres rabbit men talking about sheep feilds and paddocks, and thats what I was talking about at the start saying you cant realy have a fair match there. boyo 1,398
plus i would have thought our irish freinds would have been running a few on longears without saluki owing to the running ground over there.talking of which i was in a mates up north having a cuppa a few weeks back and there was a bitch in his back yard that looked like a little lamping bitch wouldnt give her house room for looks but looks are deceiving its the same bitch that drew 4 apeice with jason bs good dog earlier in the year and has won a lot of matches in ireland and over here on the big land .she proved never judge a book by its cover lol.and not sure but think she didnt have any saluki in her or if she did it was very little way back .
