I've got a young lad who has been coming to help me as often as he can,he's been doing all the "gopher stuff" for the last 2 season's and is keen as mustard,he's still only 17 but has proved hiself so

Not many young lads have the heart for terrierwork. instead, their more interested in alcopops, smoking, drugs and being lippy little fecks of hunting forums...

I seriously considered giving up about 10 year ago when all my dogs were stolen, its very hard to come back from that when it happens and i would not wish it on anyone, but i kept goin and i dug with a

im newish to the digging scene but i was blessed with being able to dig on big estate a few miles from my home, from the people i know and have dug with ive learnt alot, i have full respect for my quarry and dig in the way i feel is the 'right way' there are alot of lads out there that are kill kill kill with no respect! there is nothing i like more than to see than a healty fox running across to country side, if i dont dig that day im happy with the walk and the views, i put the safety of my dog first and i will not let him go to ground in potential dangerous areas. ive done all my partying when i was a little younger but if i had found digging earlier i know i wouldnt of been like i was!

Lots of decent young lad digging these days  the hard bit is getting the stock but if you stick at until you get a chance to prove your worth to the older experienced guys and have a sensible head on you then you are going in the right direction. Being a yound lad myself I have found it diffcult gaining trust but am keen as mustard so if that means I go out by myself everyweek and learn everything myself that will have to do me :D

just reading through some of the posts on here -- i asked my self the question is thr a future for terrier work in the next say 20 year .. some of the younger generation of digging lads are either clueless or know it all i know of a lot of older digging men who have packed up in the last couple of year a lot due to health and some for the way the games gone .. question for the older lads how much longer do you see yourself in the game - have you or intend to give the game up ? and the younger lads is the future safe in your hands ? thrs countless people that have done a lot of hard work to promote terrierwork work in the right way -- i dont want to single people out but is thr a b .w. of the future is the future of the fmwtc and other clubs gonna be safe in the hands of these younger lads ..

me these days is mostly lamping foxes and hunting covers by day but i did a lot of digging for many years but when i was young i listened a lot, learned and took in all the knowledge i could.i was lucky that there was good older men who passed on stuff to us.we learned through practical experience and learnt slowly over time.i must say though that if we were as arrogant and know it all as some young guys these days we would not have been tolerated and would have been told stay at home.their is plenty of young lads with the right attitude but too many who think they know it all and don't respect their dogs, burrows or the landowners.young lads starting can't learn their "trade" on this or any other website, but a lot think they can.

it is hard but the young lad is on the right path if lads who live around him no hes digging they may well ask him to tag along not him asking them it all about the frends around you and having like minded frends who would go with you even when nobody knows what they are doing and then terriermen wil ask him too come with them because they dont wont him to gett the dogs smashed up every week end .would you lot let him keep making the some f**k ups because i know i wouldnt ( i would help him just because we was all young one day and had the same fight to go on a digg )

I was lucky enough when I started out that I had decent men around me who were delighted to show me the right way to do things. This is still the case and I have half a dozen decent guys to turn to if I need a favour or advice and most are waiting to help.

I have been only to happy to return the favour with one lad who was out most of last season with me. Suffice to say he well and truly 'shat in the nest' and wont be back out.

I think there are some genuine youngsters who have an active interest in the sport but you have to sift through ALOT of shite to get to them.

Most are only in it for the short term, some are in it for the image and most will chuck it at the slightest obstacle or if they discover lassies, drink or drugs.

The ones who survive through the above and come out the other side as keen as they went in will be the ones who stick it in the long run irregardless of laws or difficulties.

Me being only 22 is still by far young but with 2 kids mortage and a girlfriend so demanding iv had no choice but to grow up fast im no a taxi driver which takes up some hours but still find a couple nights a week to go lamping (not so much since season fin) but even if its just mooching about with dogs i much perfer that than getting lashed up nowdays ( anything to get out house haha) but finding lads my way that are into digging is like finding rocking horse sh*t. I no 1 guy but he has moved away so there goes my chance off tagging along haha. But if anyone wants to give a invite for a day and do there bit by teaching the next generation I'd be happy to tag along and make the coffee ha. I don't mind traveling either iv drove over 100 miles for a few rats before so defo would for a days digging.

few year ago a lad used to come out with us keen as fcuk he had an older russell bitch off me for ratting did a bit of digging got a little lurcher went rabbiting we all thought he`d last the course .. then 4 year on he found out whr the pub was and what was in his pants ... the russells back on my yard and the lurchers his mums pet .. he might come back to it but none of the older lads are willing to help another youngster out my lads have never shown any interest and gone into differant sports -- my daughter was well into it but studies and buisness commitments have curtailed her interest .. none of the older lads i know have had any interest in it from thr kids they all went into football and wanted to be the next david beckham or ryan giggs ...

hey the stig, have you heard about any african men in uk who dig to terriers.
