gnipper 6,432
I know that when you breed Goldie mules you let the young hear a goldie song all the time and try and keep them out of earshot of cock canaries to make them finch noted but would this work with pure canary chicks? Cheers, Gnipper
J Darcy 5,871
Who can say....personally i like a good Canary song as much as any bird, save perhaps, for the Chaffinch. To me the chaffy is a wonderful singer.
gnipper 6,432
I agree the canary song is nice but I think it would be interesting to try and get some canaries singing different finch songs or see if its been done before. The little cock bird i've got here is meant to be a hoso and he can't half sing for the size of him.
J Darcy 5,871
I like the canary notes better than goldies to be perfectly honest..... the yellowhammers i bred were quite good too. The unusual ones such as the Blackcap and Reedbunting have pleasant warbles and not as loud as the cock robin who is nuts come the end of February..... Still, once spring was here and they stopped making that silly, annoying 'chirp', the chaffys were my favourite and could not be beaten for power and song...but thats just my ears, i don't expect others to agree... Meroman 105
Sound of a cock chaffy driving a hen to nest beats all. A goldfinch swishing and singing is a close second....

Guest john5
I agree the canary song is nice but I think it would be interesting to try and get some canaries singing different finch songs or see if its been done before. The little cock bird i've got here is meant to be a hoso and he can't half sing for the size of him. those hoso are noisey little sods but have their own song ,coloureds have theirs and the rollers song is very sweet and subtle , watterslaggers are a notch up in volume over rollers , as for getting canaries to sing finch songs i think you may struggle a bit best of luck though
