secretagentmole 1,701
Well as some of you may have read Mole has got a Chrono (about time too shout the masses). The machine I am using is the Combro cb-625 mark 4. This is a tiny gadget, encased in plastic, that goes on the barrel end. The method of ensuring alignment is crude but effective. You hold it on with a couple of rubber bands. It is large enough to cope with silencers up to 32mm diameter. Press the top button of the 3 on the Chrono and it is ready to go. The source of illumination is built into the machine, it does come with a sun shade, or do as I do, shoot in the shadows! This keeps a tally of all the shots passed through it and can calculate the average fps from a string of shots! Combines with a handy little web page, you can then work out your fpe! Foot Pound Energy Calculator This is a compact handy gadget, well worth getting and a useful addition to a shooters inventory! Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
if you have an air rifle....you should have one of these !!!!! they are a fraction of the cost of your gun, and if you change pellets etc.....it keeps you legal Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Thanks for the tip neil, I will look for one of those! The rubber band works, but this looks a lot better. Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
I got one Alex, I reviewed it, it was Neil's tip about holding it on that impressed me, better than rubber bands! Quote Link to post
19powell90 89
we got the same one as you moley, mine displays both ft/lb and fps so should yours. atb scott Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
It would do if I entered the pellet weight, I just get the average FPS reading and do the conversion online. Works for me! Damned nice little unit those Mark 4s! Doing a full run down test on the X2 tomorrow, too windy to shoot! Gusts about 40-45mph round here forecast! matt_hooks 188
The Combro is ok, but the very short measuring distance means there is a pretty large margin for error, a very fast sampling rate is needed to get an accurate reading for fps. I use a Chrony shooting chrono, which set me back only slightly more than the Combro, and has a 12 inch base length, so a similar sampling rate to the combro gives far better accuracy (the base line on the combro is about 2" iirc?) I'd agree that a chronograph is an essential item in the kit of a shooter, especially an air rifle shooter, and the combro does the job ok. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
The base is 60mm on the Mark 4, which is good enough! Quote Link to post
markha 99
I have one and also had an F1 in the past, the Combro is just as good, and in essence they tend to give results a little on the high side when compared to high end chrono's, so there is a bit of a margin when wishing to keep your output below the legal limit. Moley, why dont you just find out your pellet weight and enter it into the Combro?, there is no need for an extra website or anything else.... There is a pellet weight data chart on this site somewhere, with the actual pellet weights from different brands. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I know, I did, the fpe worked out at about 11.36, which I am happy with! Lovely little device! Recommend it to anyone! Quote Link to post
