Its tempting to have more then you need at times, worse when their is good pups about ect been offered, you have to restrain your self and look at what you have.

In my area, 2 is enough really, 3 the max.

I have 2 and even though its handy when 1 is injured, i find when they get left behind,its hard to keep them quiet, as they know whats happening and want to come!!

When you live in a built up area, this can lead to problems!

I have also found in the passed, with just having the 1 dog, it gets all the attention and work, so becomes in some cases, a better worker than if it was been worked with other dogs.

 

spot on, if lamping is your game you got take the 2 out the same night, or as you say leave 1 at home, and the dog left can play up. I am going to face this prob later this year, my bullxgrey Tod is whinger i found alot of bullxs are . Even though i had him for differnt work than Bryn, i think this when 2 dogs can get to be a pain in the arse.!!

i agree it can be difficult keeping two but only taking one on each particular night out,never had a winging bull x myself but i always fed one dog while the other was getting put in the motor,they were usualy none the wiser but did help that they were kenneled seperately

i have two lurchers now i use have 7 but they were not get the work the need it so i give them away to friends

i ve got 3 ,mother and 2 sons ,mother now 7 and still take her out lamping a few times a season ,ferreting ,diggin,mostly just mooching,her first son which is now 4 has took over the rains with a passion and he is now loving his role as no1 dog and helping me bring her recent pup which is now 15month ,i think 2 dogs is enough 2 work full time ,unless you have 1ooos of achres and running your dogs 7 nights/days a week

Mine live together, this has added problems, where a friend, houses them seperately, works well for him.

I will be housing any new pup in the future, seperately.

imo you gotta have a couple of dogs nothing worse than having a knocked up dog in the kennel mid season and cant get out,ive two but not very oftern i will lamp the two together,but the only problem is your always gonna have your favorite which will always get that bit more work

work them on a rotation wene ur breeding ur bitches aswell good ta have a couple spare lyk

i only have lurchers that work at mo my brindle dog storm is 7yrs now still use him plus i have his sister who is 3yrs also a pup im bringing on out my little merl bitch that past away also ive just had to have my 2 real old ones pts they do plenty of work for me plus travel around to diffrent places lamping so its all good my end

i have 10 dogs at the moment 3 lurchers 1 is my 9 year old 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie still bring him lamping when im just out for a few rabbits and maybe a fox or 2 but when im out for mainly big game to fill the frezer i use my wheaton x greyhound bitchs 1 i will have on the slip and if my eldest son come's he will slip the other other wise i work them on alternative nights then i have my 2 whippet which i use for mainly day time moching along with my jackrussel bitch my staffy cross and my 5month old patterdale pup and i have them out 7 days a week mainly in the feilds around the corner from my house but sometimes i would be out with a few mates with their dogs any we could be anywhere in the country bushing rabbits and foxes but then i have my lakeland dog and my glen of imal x patterdale bitch that i use during the digging season and while im digging i would have 1 of my wheaton x lurhers with me i propably do have too many but at the moment im enjoying them and can handle them but if work went back to the way it was a few years back maybe i would have to cut down but im happy with them and as long as the are well looked after and excersized reguarly it's got f **k got to do with anyone else

if u had a pack of hounds u would need more than 4 dogs and if u were lamping 5 or 6 nights a week u would need 2 or more lurchers and if u were digging 3 or 4 times a week u would need 7 or 8 terriers and a springer to shoot wit while waiting on terriers to heal

If you have enough graft to keep two dogs working full time, then you are doing well !! Don't believe the arsholes who have a dozen dogs and claim they are working them full time !!

i think it all depends on the quarry you work and how often. theres no way you could have one dog and run everything the lamp falls on 3-4 times a week. I have 5 lurchers that are all worked and worked hard but theres no way i could have any less then 3 as i wouldnt be able to get out as often thats for sure.

iv run same dog everynight for 3/4/5 nites a week, not many last tho, 3 seasons is a long time for 1 dog doing a lot imo
