inan 841
Dont think BARF diets are an exact science mate, my dogs are between 50lb - 60lb and they get around 3lb of meat a day either chicken carcasses, beef tripe, beef mince and meaty lamb bones when I can source them. I also started to give them Eukanuba a couple of times a week about 6 months ago and have seen a difference in them since I've been doing this. Once every 2 weeks I also leave them for a full 48 hrs without any grub. I mince nothing, aslong as the bones are completely raw your dog wont have any problems, bones are one of the best parts of a BARF diet IMHO. My dogs are wormed every 3 months religiously and I try to alternate using either Milbemax or Drontal. Im not saying what I do is 100% right but my dogs seem to be doing ok Not me, I can't see the benefit of it. Not sure I agree with leaving your dog for a full 2 days without anything to eat???? Have heard of folk feeding 6 days out of 7 which would be 24 hours without food but 48 hours at one time seems an awful long time? Anyone else do this??

For Instance I will feed them at 9pm Monday evening miss them Tuesday evening and then feed them again at 9pm Wednesday evening which wrks out 48 hours, every couple of weeks, I know a few lads that do this it gives the dog a chance to clear out any toxins that can build up. I done a fair bit of reading when I switched my dog's onto a BARF diet and noticed alot of people reccomended fasting once per week I found this could be a bit harsh especially for working dogs and so chose to fast them every 2 weeks. Obviously you have to use your head a bit and I would never fast a dog after any intense exercise etc or a dog that was looking in a poor condition but I've found it seems to be working for me. Like I say im no expert by any means but this is what works for me, but there are lads out there who can condition a dog alot better than myself. BOLIO1 1,078
It's just a rebranded term for the natural food that dogs were fed for millenia before the recently invented extruded and highly preserved dried out pelleted food became available.

Beddy-Poacher 30
I know this topic has probably been done to death but after trawling through pages and pages of topics I've still not found the answers I'm looking for. I'm looking to swap my dog from his dry greyhound beta diet to a complete raw diet. But would anyone mind giving me a complete breakdown of what they give thier dogs throughout the week with amounts as a template for me to start from. Ie: monday morning - mince beef.........monday evening - chicken etc etc. Also, at my local pet shop they have frozen chicken wings and other frozen raw meats for dogs, would these have to be minced up into a fine pulp to avoid choking or is it the same story as the ferrets and just throw it in? And lastly does worming need to be made more frequent? Thanks very much for any input, Aaron. my advice pal is, keep the biscuits in the diet. spend £3 on veg which should be enough for 1 lurcher for a wk. give your dog some raw meat and bones once or twice a wk and what you catch boil up with the veg in a big pan. then put it in containers let it cool and freeze. during hunting season. I usually put a handful of biscuits down in the morning so the dog as some energy if im going lamping that night. then after the nights work i give the dogs the boiled up meat and veg. if im not working them ie now. i give them generous amounts of biscuits in the morning, take the dogs out after work then feed them the stew when we get home. at the mo i just go butches and ask for £5's worth of meat and bones for the wk for the dog let him know your going to cook some of it and give it your dog raw aswell so you get a good choice. and yes the more raw meat u give um the more u worm
