It all depends if you are prepared to carry a battery??? Then you can decide on the best scope mounted lamp. Also does the size matter? Is the gun on your back a lot and you are walking a long way? You may want a torch with it's own battery supply as there are torches that will reach 200yrds but if you want more you need to think of carrying a battery.

thanks for that sako, hoping to get away with carrying battery pack but if needs be i will,i think most of my shooting at the moment will be off high seats so not too bad,and 200 yards will be my limit.

I use a Cluson SL2 Shootalite. This is a scope mounted lamp, very light and can be attached or removed easily from the scope mount. It should be good for the range you mention. I also shoot alone on foot. My battery pack is on a shoulder strap which allows the battery to move about a lot, the waist belt might be a better option.

Hope this hepls. K

I bought a tactical 900 of ebay £119 that's battery, mount, charger, pressure switch and torch everything you need. It had a nice tight dot and was claimed to shine 350yrds with 250 shooting distance. On clean ground I would say you'd get to 200yrds with it but I returned it without mounting it on the gun as it wasn't quite bright enough for my requirements and ordered a lightforce 170 instead but that needs a battery pack. I do have a Thrunite Catapult3 which is a great torch for me as I just use it for scanning and then use nv to shoot. It does light up a wide area but also has a tight dot in the centre but it's £119 just for the torch with no mount or charger. I haven't compared these to the deben and clulite etc but Im more than happy with the performance of the catapult.

If you are up on high seats then a mounted torch would be your best bet, you don't want wires up there. I would reccomend the catapult but that tactical 900's lighter, shorter and definately worth a look, British seller called hunting supplies and responds straight away to emails.

I use a Cluson Master light on .223 and 22.250 and find it to be alot easier than batteries and wires hanging everywhere ,I have a shootalight but still use the Master light more.

Is the 250 lumen beam bright enough on the master light?

How do you get on with the different light settings do you ever press the wrong setting?

Does the switch need to click before it switches on or will it come on with gentle pressure?

That was the one thing I didn't like on the tactical 900 you had to click the switch on the rear of the torch for the different brightnesses but Im not sure how the pressure switch worked, I assumed it was just off and on.
