pure bull facts

Recommended Posts

hi lads

Was just wondering if the pure bull was a vicious as the press and general public make out ,are they over hyped, untrustworthy vicious or loyal will they always have to be watched with children or protect them It has often made me think because i have read that the bull is a loyal companion and very protective over small children ,but having said that if you mention the word pitbull to any one the look at you with horror.

i look forwardv to hearing from you all

happy hunting

from my experiance nearly all staffordshire bull terriers are spot on with kids and people, as a whole the stafford can take the rough and tumble of family life with ease, however there are one or two which may have had a bad start in life that can be nervous.

there is nothing as dangerous as a nervous example of a any breed with such high drive and bite force, even a warning can result in a very bad injury!

with respect to pit bull terriers, if they are bred from "working lines" you need to do your homework very very carfuly as some lines do carry the potential to be a "little sharp", and dispite all the bollox about only breeding from lines that can be handled therefore the dogs are bomb proof, people breed for money and winners and temprement can come second to this.

the thing is with both the above pure breeds you know what your going to get, do your home work and only get one from kid frendly lines that have been socialised correctly and not just kept in a kennel for 8 weeks and you should be ok,

in my very humble opinon the bigest issue we now have is all the cross breed muts out there that have a mixture of guardian / mastif breeds plus pit or lively stafford, these can be the risk, as you cannot have any way of anticipating the nature or out come.

then these dogs are going to ever younger owners who think big is best and anything that shows "spirit" is top of the tree!

To be honest I am wrighting this as I have just had my two nephews (5 and 9)visit and they were pulling my poor 12 year old staff all over the place and he did not bat an eyelid,, however the tried to pat my 8 month old saluki cross and he made it very clear he was not over happy,,

as has been said time and time again, all dogs have teeth, teeth are sharp, do not leave any thing of value with any thing sharp without our supervision!

the key to any of this is responsible breeders that know what and why they are breeding and try their best to ensure the dogs go to the correct homes!

all the best rob,

True words. Bull dogs are not for first time dog owners let alone game breed. Do your home work on the line first , than visit the kennel and spend time with the parent of pup you wanna buy and ask the breeder about the parents of pup and its grand and great grand parent and how their temperament was. Than when you happy with the parents than watch the pup till his 7 months, i swear you can tell a man biter from young age , he will pull when on lead when he sees people like he would when he sees a dog. I had a man biter and he was well socialized but it didnt matter. You dont socialize such dogs , there is no point , you put them down or kennel them. Mine came from a peddler who bred dog for paper , and even after i told him bout the pup the breeding was repeated again and pups sold to pet owners. The pup was put to sleep at 5 months old.

99.9% of the time dog problems are a humans fault. In your case it was the breeders fault. However every now and then you get a dog that is just a wrongun. You can get humans too with wonderful parents and wonderful lives that become killers. I personally have never had one that I would class as bad but its always possible. I have had a few willful dogs but every dog I have had has eventually come good with time and effort. Problem is that most people can't be bothered to train a dog if it shows the slightest sign of willfulness.

Liam, You speak alot of sense. I'll tell you who i blame, the greedy men who first started selling PB's to the general public to make money. If they had have been kept within a tight working circle

From my experience American Pitbull Terriers are some of the BEST dogs I have ever owned!!!! Hands down the most loyal breed and so Damn eager to please its ridiculous. They are crazy hard workers and give ya 200% at anything you ask of them! I would say they are very stable with children and they tend to have a very high pain tolerance to the abuse a kid can give em. My dogs are not really protective at all one of mine will bark at a stranger thru the fence but I guess just the site of them would deter anyone with the wrong intentions. They definitely are not for everyone, they are a very high drive athletic breed that need lots of exercise to be happy. I think poor breeding and being owned by the wrong people is what is hurting the breed, and the media loves to have a MONSTER to report about. They should focus on the owners and not the dogs themselves! They can be dog or animal aggressive but their original purpose was animal baiting and dog fighting and this should never turn into human aggression of you have a properly bred dog. I myself will always own atleast one pitbull or mix of that kind.

In the USA you have different gene pools to chose from hope you dont mind me asking would you trust a purely pitt bred dog around your house as much as a schutzhund line or hunting line cos you have a choice over there 99% of our are from pitt bred dogs

Dealt with a few pups behind the scenes but i wouldnt recommend having one in the uk mate only takes on phonecall from a tit and your done dogs pts for its breed.Regardless of how pleasant or friendly i wouldnt leave any dog alone with kids but least of all a really powerful one.The few we have saved were fine but very young so not a great example.
