vld 62
Got 4 btiches. Only ever had kick offs between the terrier and the oldest lurcher (in the avatar) it was eventually settled that after me, the lurcher was the top bitch with the terrier second. The terrier was usually quite respectful around the lurcher until one day the lurcher started choking on bone or something - well that little f****r went for her throat and tried to rip her to bits - I had the chuck the terrier until the lurcher recovered!I've not had a kick offf now between them for about 3 years so hopefully thats the end of it. Ironically the bull x lurcher is the bottom of my pack (even lower than the 6 month old pup ) the fanny!! Quote Link to post
bird 9,864
doesnt take much bird with big dominant breeds and the end results are disastrous. but then again a greyhound kennel fight is f*****g terrible to behold. dogs packs are by nature fluid and your right nothing is ever 100% you right with greyhounds, i worked at racing kennels for 4 months. And greyhounds can be right feckers for fighting if they get there blood up, they are very strong dogs with hell of a jaw on them. No wonder bullxgreys are popular type dog Quote Link to post
Cold Ethyl 63
Thats why the terrier and lurchers stay seperate now cos she loves a fight and can start over very little and then they nearly killed her already. So not going to wait and see if shes lucky another time. Quote Link to post
fieldsman 51
I find it difficult to believe when I read stuff like this I have any where from 7 to 15 dog here of any different breeds I,m the top dog when I see trouble brewing I put a stop to it instantly and permanently. They feed out of the same bowl ,if you have more than one dog you must command fespect from them all any biting will be done by me and only me .If they show no respect for each other what are they like when they meet other dogs with a strong personality .Bad owners not bad dogs . Cold Ethyl 63
Not always done to owners In my case Blitz is old and a terrier the two lurchers are good with each other and my friends dogs my male doesnt like dogs bouncing up to him when hes on a lead and theyre not.He also wont put up with a strange dog giving him grief but he goes for gold so i dont put him in the situation. Not all dogs can be taught the way you think they can ive had some bangers for foster dogs here and done my damdest to no avail theyre destined to be only dogs Quote Link to post
bleachtastesnice 4
Its far from ideal and would be a very last resort for me, but have you thought about giving one the snip? Quote Link to post

ryan_ashworth 0
There should not be a pecking order there is one leader and that is you if fighting gets out hand put the two off them in there place. Leave them to it and you end up with dead dog or a big vet bill totally agree, your the boss, i have 2 bitches and trouble has only ever started at food time but they soon got the grasp they fight they go hungry for a little longer. scruffing i find quite effective aswell as that is what a dominant dog would do Quote Link to post
tia.kins 56
If you value the dogs, do something now and separate them. I lost two fit and healthy lurcher bitches a year ago because one decided to sort out the pecking order whilst I was driving to work. I thought the same when I saw the initial signs, they will sort it out or I can step if if I don't like what I see....... Well I wasn't there and my missus was powerless to do anything. The stronger, younger bitch virtually killed the other one. I had both PTS, due to the nature of injuries and the fact I lost faith in the other having got home in time so see her crazed behaviour. That's my warning. Your your own man...... But if I had simply separated the two dogs having seen the signs your seeing, then things would probably have turned out alot better for all concerned. 3 Turns 326
ALRIGHT MATE ITLL SORT ITSELF OUT SHORTLY. DOMINENT DOG LL SORT IT OUT. PACK ORDER. ITLL BE SCARY FOR A WHILE BUT THEYLL SORT IT OUT 1 OR 2 HEAVY SCRAPS. TRY NOT TO GET PHYSICAL. ALPHA MALE WILL JUST TAKE MORE LIBERTYS BECAUSE HE,LL SEE YOU BEING PROTECTIVE BETA MALE WILL GET BRAVE THINKING YOUR BACKING HIM UP. JUST TRY AND BE A STOPPER HAMMER BOTH AFTERWARDS. YOUR THE BOSS NOT THEM. WALK BOTH TOEGETHER STRAIGHT AFTER LEASHED Edited May 5, 2011 by 3 Turns Quote Link to post

That is a shocking tale......anyone who reads this and does not take heed is crazy. The fact is no one can be on hand 24 hours a day to keep watch.....it only takes a second for a scrap to start.
