sako 23
Has anyone had any experience with a swarovski range finder? Are they any good to use for spotting? As they are less than half the price of range finder binoculars with the better glass I was considering these as the next best thing. They are a lot lighter than the binos so would be better for me on foot, but I wouldn't want to buy them then find out they were useless at last light or not up to the mark for scanning. Any opinions??? Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
Depends on how much you value scanning the area mate I found that as they are only a monocular my eye seemed to be always strained the glass is superb and they range very accurately but I just couldn't get on with it and in the end got a pair of leica ultravid 10x42 bins and a leica crf 1200 rangefinder I know that is a significant difference in the amount of money but I found I valued having excellent bins over the ability to rangefind I have ended up a lot happier having separate units which do their respective jobs without being a compromise Quote Link to post
sako 23
Cheers danw, so my next question is, would 8x42 leica binos let in more light at dusk than the 10x42's? Im not sure what mag to go for. Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
I would imagine the 8x42 would let a little more light in but I find that the 10x42 leica work long after I can't see to shoot sensibly with the swarovski 3x12x50's I have on my rifles I prefer just that little more mag in my bins because when I take stalking clients out I want to be able to assess the quality of the head properly before the stalk/shot Quote Link to post

I just looked and the 10x are 50g lighter than the 8x, excellent! Im on swarovski scopes to so sounds like these leicas are the ones for me to and they come with a range finder .
