Im exactly in the same position as you iceman.my pup was 10month on the 16th of this month, and he will wait till august before i even think about it.you can keep a dog fit in the summer without having

TBH if I had a pup ready to start it would get started and it wouldnt matter what time of the year it was. As a rule with seasoned dogs I finish end of march then start getting the ring rust shook off

best to let the young pups mature over the summer months it wont do them no harm unlike the hard ground they are running on jarring toes and tendons . respect your quarry as well let them have their young in peace . pups will get plenty of education early season when the ground has had a bit of rain on it.

Truth be told l be hunting my pup thought the summer cant afford going into the season with a 15 16 month old pup that does not have a clue.Just wondering if other people have pups off the same age and are they going hunt them or hold them back till the season

I had same prob last year my saluki bull grey was not 12month until june which was in the middle of summer so I waited until sep to run him on anything he done very well and I wouldn't say I wasted any time.I can't see why you would learn a dog on easy rabbits when at winter they are totally different and the hot weather and rock hard ground are hardly ideal

Truth of the matter is most of them haven't got the dogs to consistantley do well in winter so they hunt in the summer to massage their ego's.

iceman never hunt in the summer theirs a reason apart from the fact you are killing your own sport your killing your dogs aswell a pup of 10 months or 12 months is not ready to run hard and i know what the experts will say a few handy ones are no harm but how do yea know their are going to be handy this is the very reason that a lot of dogs are finished to young they start to young and if yea look at it how come it is nearly always the same men that will always have a reasonable dog round him their will be men that will end up with a good dog every now and then but this is by accident more than any thing else.yea only get one in your life and enjoy it while yea have it.what a load of shit.stick to the rules run your young dogs as much as he wants not as much as you want and yea will nearly always have something half decent as long as it is breed wright reared wright and fed wright and sorry in advance if this gets a load of crap going as yea have seen tends to follow me.ps foxy and dancer ran in the forley when they were 5 or 6 apart from the fact they were good dogs a lot of men would have had them jacking at 2 . 3 or 4 the dog is only as good as the man that has it

Speedie that very good answer the pup wont see a hare till the start off the season if ones gets up over mountain when out for walk there nothing l can do about that.

A lot people hold there coursing pups back till about 17 18 months what age you give young pup its 1st hare

iceman hare rabbit fox or anything else i have hunted them all it dosent matter if the dog is to young its to young full stop cant tell yea what age as the dog usually tells me all dogs are diffrent thats where the real dog man comes in he can see when he is ready a big dog usually takes a bit longer

Most pups that l have had l always started early and never had a prop this be the 1st pup that has been held back but good to see the difference.

Just this 1st pup that l have had breed for hares most have been just rabbit dog that could spin a hare or two.

why is your rabbit bitch slowing up at 6 she should only be past her prime a friend of mine ran his bitch this winter past at hares over 7 she is not as good as she was but still going alwright

She has had 4 litters off pups 3 off which when l didnt have her.Just got her sewed up there 3 months ago so she cant have any more.Plus all the injuries she has had over the years starting catch up on her.

Still catch you good bag on the lamp and kill you few foxes but not the bitch she once was very hard get the weight to stay off her puts it on so easy.
