Summer hunting

Recommended Posts

There is a lot off fighting on here about summer hunting. Most off the coursing lads and fox lads would not dare go out this time off the year but there is lots off people on here that hunt rabbits all year round.

What l was wondering what happenings if you have pup like myself at 10 months old do you just walk it and keep it fit until the season which is 5 months away or do you hunt with the pup though the summer so it knows what it is doing before the season starts.

5 months not doing nothing with a pup is a lot off time wasted on the pup and your self so just wondering what people think

TBH if I had a pup ready to start it would get started and it wouldnt matter what time of the year it was. As a rule with seasoned dogs I finish end of march then start getting the ring rust shook off

No mate you wait till he is fully developed then run him on game. Summer hunting is a touchy subject I hunt all year round my dog is fit 365 and my airrifle is always ready to see the open fields and it's not for any other reason than I like doing it my dog likes running my kids like rabbits so it should be sensibly talked about and discust

I dont mind taking 3/4 grown animals but take no pleasure in killing pregnant ones

I have a pup 13months at minute an i won't be starting him until august as the ground is rock solid at min and the fields are full of young calves and lambs aswell. An any farmer i know doesn't want young livestock pestered.

Also doe's full young aren't good sport in my eyes, just killing next years sport. 3/4 grown young'ns are easy enough to start young dogs in my opinion.

Different stroke for different folks. I wouldn't be into it myself. Summer is more hardship on a dog than the winter imo.
