stewie 3,387 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Share Posted April 28, 2011 seems to me alot of the time in "dog world" that different people like different types and thats all good, its makes the world go round!!! but what really does my head in is when people say this cross is shite, that cross cant do this or that etc :wallbash: i was at a show a few years ago and found myself talking to a bloke with two hancock dogs, a mearle dog and a black and white bitch. i must admit both dogs were very nice on the eye and had plenty of scars and scrapes that showed they were at least doing something in the field. i was a bit tipsy at the time and thought id buy the man a pint as he was on his own and looked abit lost. what a mistake that proved to be for the next half an hour all i heard was how great hancock dogs were, how they were the ultimate lurcher that couldnt be bettered, how that they could retrieve from half a mile away if needed etc etc but what really did it for me was when he called salukis shit as they CANT jump or retrieve :laugh: i quickly sank my pint and walked away from him and went to watch the show!!! after a couple of classes i heard someone say "their you are mate" i turned around and FFS its him again why did he have to call me mate im to polite for my own good sometimes and when he said "its my round mate" like a soft cnut i went back in the beer tent with him thinking he cant be as bad as before. i was wrong for about half an hour he proceeded to tell me the bad parts in saluki crosses like no brains, bad feet, bad recall, to slow off the mark, cant jump, chest to deep dont like the cold, wont go in water he just went on and on and i sat there thinking he must of gone through some salukis to hate them this much so i asked how many have he had owned/ran and guess how many??????? thats right NONE :toast: i said "how the f**k can you say all that then" he said "its common knowledge" :D i almost pissed myself laughing as i walked out the tent leaving the gobby twat in no doubt what i thought of him im happy seeing anything from a 17in whippet bitch to a 32in deerhound dog work and if it does its job its a good dog in my eyes yes it might not be my cup of tea but id never knock it!!! each to there own be boring if we all ran the same types 1 Quote Link to post

Once upon a time, long before I had anything to do with Saluki lurchers, I too believed they were untrainable, and only fit to run hares off a slip. You see, that's what I had always heard.
