scalesntails 118
Bearded dragons are really easy to keep. You need to feed them a mixed diet of livefood e.g. crickets along with a good variety of veg and give them calcium and vitamin supplements. There are listed of good and bad veg for lizards you can find via google For 1 adult you will need a vivarium 3ft x 2ft x 2ft as an absolute minimum. I personally would use a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft for one. Use lino as substrate as anything else will get eaten and cause impaction the areas they come from are hardened dried mud and rock not sand. The other plus side of lino is the buggers shit loads and lino is wipe clean. Heating you need a spotlamp controlled by a dimmer thermostat on for 12-14 hours a day and an 8-10% UV bulb on for the same amount of time. Do not use any other heating and give no nighttime heat. They will be healthier that way as they are used to cold nights in the desert. Where ever you go they will try to sell you crap you don't need here is a complete list:- Vivarium 3ftx2ftx2ft to max 5ftx2ftx2ft (Block off half space while young so they don't get stressed and can catch their food easier. Spotlamp. 1 x 100w to 150w spot should do it Thermostat. This really is not an optional extra! Lino sheets x 2 for lining bottom of viv. 1 for use and one for spare. 8-10% UV tube and starter this should cover 2/3 of the length of the viv and be no more than 10-12 inches from the bottom of the cage. Decoration. They like a few rocks, branches etc while young. DO NOT give them a hide as they will hide and get cold and get ill. Food various veg given fresh each day and dusted with calcium powder. An adult beardie will need at least 2-3 tubs of live food a week. You can breed cockroaches or bulk up the live food with mealworms. Ignore myths you hear about mealworms they can't harm the lizard. Also dust live food with calcium and dust food with vitamin powder twice a week. Water bowl. They like to bathe and will also drink water if you teach them to. Timer for lighting and heating. Bit of a ramble but on my 5th bottle of gorse wine. PM me if you need anything else.
