TOMO 26,009
ive seen a few run , that i thought very good,, hare coursing, i have watched splodge run, both fen and smaller hedgy land. blessed with speed and staminar. i have also watched roberto's dog maggie run and kill 5 from 5 ,, 3 off one slip. that was somthing special to wittness , but it was the only time i have seen it run. on the lamp,,,my old mate had a bull/grey,, that was a relentless rabbit catcher,, and also ginnyspiners dog ginny was very similar in its relentless staminar and drive to catch rabbits. Simoman 110
Best dog ive seen was Ricky, best bitch owned by a member on here, little black bitch game as a pebble, although her owner has a flip flop fetish..... Quote Link to post
SPOTTY BACKED BIG RACK 90
I have been privelaged to have seen what I and others would class as a bitch who in her prime would be classed as a top bitch definately a bitch at the very top of her game . This was many many years ago before we had to look over our shoulder now this bitch was nothing specail to look at but myself and everyone that saw this bitch work all agreed she was a bit specail and had that knack of reading quarry . You would not meet a more placid bitch but when she had to deal with anything she done it effectively and quick . .I witnessed this bitch put around 700 roe in the bag which was her favoured quarry but she also took many foxes hare and rabbits over the years . So to reply to the origonal question this was the best dog ive seen perform a real classy bitch Is 700 an estimate? thats a lot of roe for one dog even through out a full running career. WILF 46,587
A dog called "Paddy", everything i like in a dog......gentle, quiet docile nature, 100% around kids, stock and other dogs.....cool as a cucumber. But when the lamp went on and his quarry was in the beam he would become a raging beast trying to break through the windows of the vehicle.......I know his owner got more than a few hefty bangs round the head as "Paddy" made an unexpected exit from the window. Made things look very, very easy on even the hardest of jobs......now retired and living out his dotage being fussed over. I have seen another and heard of one more, that are what I would be happy with but its not appropriate to mention them at the moment. Also, I have never had the pleasure of seeing the dog run in the flesh, but from his posts TOMOs dog looks to make him happy. Edited April 28, 2011 by WILF Quote Link to post
rolysmate 49
Mate of mine had a little dog about 21" that was a mix breed but with greyhound, labrador in the mix and he was a little cracker both daytime and night. He had a terrific nose on him, faced any cover, worked with ferrets to rabbits or rats, watched him work moorland on a brown hare using his nose and kept pushing it and eventually caught and retrieved it we were stood on a hillside overlooking it and watched it all was a terrific piece of work by this little dog. He took fox both day and night and double numbers of rabbits were not a problem for him yet if you saw him you wouldn"t have given tuppence for him on looks. Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,151
700 Did you have a pen and paper? And how many did it catch when you weren't there? Quote Link to post
toby1066 413
suppose if it ran 7 seasons and killed 100 a season its possible but would be a helluva dog by anyones standards i would say Quote Link to post

The lad i do abit with had the pleasure to witness Minshaws BLUE in the field (LAMP ONLY). An from what he says about this dog sounds like the dog was in a league of its own. ATB SHanded. . maitland93 13
Every person who owns and works lurchers all have a brag now and again about there dogs performance, big there dogs up because every ones dog is special to them. There will be some lads out there with outstanding dogs which one day may class them as ( top dogs ) A dog is only as good as its last catch in my opinion Quote Link to post
