Wilky 0 Posted February 12, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 12, 2007 Personally I think this killing cubs/not killing cubs argument has been done to death more than once, the same as most folk I go on some places where they HAVE to be dealt with, it's not pleasurable and it's nothing to brag about, it's certainly no test for a terrier, and when I have to do it, I do it mainly to keep my permission, pest control or not, it just makes it nicer when you have the option not to. There are two different types of lads in my book. Those that go out digging in summer getting there young dogs into cubs cause they are easy to find and kill and those that repect there seasons and quarry and only kill them if neccesary, I and many others fall into the latter group of lads. Nearly time to give the dogs a rest now, and to say the subject has been hammered is an understatement. Quote Link to post

My grandfather used to hand rear the cubs if the dog had killed the vixen, if they survived they survived if they didn't then thats the way it went, my grandmother was a dab hand at rearing them though for re-release at a later date. Its funny how some terriers won't kill the cubs, vast majority of ours (even a couple of the males) would bring them out alive as well. Its nice to see some terriermen are still 'old school' we have enough blood thirsty maniacs in this game to sink a battle ship. Quote Link to post

TOPPER 1,809 Posted February 20, 2007 Report Share Posted February 20, 2007 Fair play for leaving them id have done the same myself and if the dog had killed the vixen i would have hand reared them they got a 50-50 chance then as was said earlier there to many blood thirsty twats about posin as terriermen/ sportsmen but who am i to judge ??? i am out 3-4 time s aweek every week doing something with my dogs but you have to keep the balance, ive killed thousands of foxes over the years but i still respect them and love to sit and watch the cubs play. Definately the earliest I've had in a long time, popped them back in as far as we could, watch them crawl away and then left them to it. will the vixen take them back with the human scent on them Quote Link to post
