new concrete dog run

Recommended Posts

Timberbuild kennels do a kennel/run floor which is apparently ideal if you need to site your kennel and run on an area which doesn't have a concrete base or if you find (like me and others on this thread) that it stinks in the summer unless you house out after every single wee. Don't know the price though.

the problem with concrete runs is usually poor grade concrete. anyone thinking of doing a run. make sure you use a high cement content mix. make sure and bring plenty of cream up when laying it and put a lot of time into finishing either powerfloat or hand float till you can see your face in it  this will seal the surface and make it more durable.

give your runs a decent depth of concrete and make it even through the whole run. there is no point putting down a couple of inches. you would be as well useing pre cast slabs. give the concrete a good run off into the drain and sweeten up the lowside to avoid run off. the quicker the water gets off the better  a well laid concrete floor needs very ittle maintainance and is very durable.

put it down right and it will ast a lifetime

floor sealers have there uses but wont stop smells if there are cracks alowing fluid to get below the floor and any run off will still stink. no matter how well you clean the floor.

Concrete soaks up urine? Ive never had a peoblem, if cleaned every day and discenfected oncr a week shouldnt be no problems. Get yourself some self leveler and make it just a little bit thicker works a trat and is very water tight.

tried the self leveler (cemplex) mate last time just went boss  kennels cleaned daily mate  anyone that no me will tell ya am a paranoid fook about kennel smells

paint the base with SBR glue that plasterers use will seal it and will not come away
