jacksbignose 8
the only thing that worries me is that neither the dam or sire work Always an interesting one that! How about all those folks with 1st crosses... Greyhounds making up a fair chunk of any lurcher's make up but aside from track/flappers etc. you'll not find many coursing/working Greyhounds around. As for genuine working Collies, Beddies and Deerhounds; I accept that there are a few of each around but stacked against the quantity of non-workers the number is abysmally small. Would many people question someone breeding first cross Collies if both dam and sire were from genuine working stock? With the exception of a few breeders, who still works their pure Deerhounds (certainly not going to openly admit it any way but you know what I mean) and a humble genuine working Bedlington is hard to find these days. It's fantastic if you know someone breeding lurchers from proven animals but not that many working dogs get the chance to prove themselves these days! Quote Link to post

chartpolski 25,876
I've got a 1st cross Deer/Grey bitch, 29", 75lb. Her sire didn't work, but was from working stock; her dam was a brood bitch, didn't do a days work or run a race in her life, but was from the best breeding ! Yet this bitch has had a great 1st season; she has done everything I expected of her ! Don't believe all this nonsense about Lurchers MUST be bred from "workers" !! Yes, it's desirable, but there's plenty top class dogs bred from "non workers" !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
ryangolding 4
cheers for the advice Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
I'm sure there is chart but you try and shorten the odds on the betting stakes where you can, don't you agree? 1 Quote Link to post

Yeah mate; I've had "worker to worker"..got a great one in the kennel just now ! Also had pure breds, Non-Peds; in fact, just about all types of running dogs. My point is; you can get a good class of dog, if the BREEDING is right, it's parents don't HAVE to have been top class working dogs; although as I say; it's desirable ! Just look at Bruce; His sire is unknown, and his dam was a track dog, but he did the job, to say the least. Cheers. Quote Link to post
