gnasher16 30,217
Never been a fan of dog shows personally....i dont need another man to tell me i have a good dog....or a bad one...and would get no pride in somebody telling me my dog looks pretty. However,i can see why some folk would see it as a good little gathering of likeminded people.....my view is as long as you dont take them too serious there ok if thats your thing....if there not your thing then what do you care The only shows i would start jumping up and down about are the kc shows as they are a basic abuse of dogs and dog breeds. JPTfellterrier 65
Well, put the dog in her first show along with her brother. They were both entered in two classes and won bugger all....I have the ugliest dogs in the show and proud, was a bloody good laugh though
BULLDOUG 199
Shows were of great impotence in the breeding world at one time, as it was a chance for the finest specimens to meet and breed best to best etc, today they are littered with train wrecks and as long as your a member of a said clique you'll be ok. I used to regularly veiw dog shows and many times picked all the winners (depending on judge). Breeding has become a cruel joke in this country today, the show ring has much to blame IMO. events co-ordinator 353
Remember the people who made sure that terrierwork in Scotland was allowed to continue were from the NWTF working in conjunction with the SHPA/SGA/alliance/NFU etc But the NWTF relies on the Terrier clubs and they in turn rely on the shows to survive. Do you think its coincidence that they built showing docked terriers into that act they know where we (the terrier clubs)get our money. They wont have to ban terrier shows there are enough people on this site to do it for them its death by a thosand cuts remember these people the SSPCA/RSPCA/LACS/Advocates for animals etc are all well funded as charities. We on the other hand rely on you handing over a quid at your local club/fell&moorland show. I arrange shows for other people because we dont show terriers at our own show and the costs are horrendous Rossettes last year £127/ trophies £150/ adverts/£70/ sound system/£50 last year the judges who Travelled to Glasgow from Durham refused expenses but thats the logistics behind the the show the unfortunate thing is it will suit all the keyboard warriors if terrierwork dies out cause most of them dont work their dogs but the clubs are struggling and need ALL OUR support. OR PERHAPS YOUR DOGS ARNT UP TO THE RIGGERS OF SHOWMANSHIP, AFTER ALL NOT EVRYONE IS CUT OUT FOR DOG OWNERSHIP Agree TOMO.Some poeple cant take rejection. So they spit the dummy out.Every show should bring back obedience training. It would show who puts the work in.And some of us could make a few quid.
