Before I moved out here to England, the dog I held in highest regard was a friends Bully/cattle/stag X Stag, that dog could stop any pig, and also catch rabbit, hare, fox, roo's, fallow and the odd re

Best dog i've seen was a geniune first cross, he would happily work alongside terriers, could finish fox after fox like shelling peas, deer were no problem and yet he would retrieve rabbits live to hand. He could be run without a slip, off the back seat happily and never started a fight and was the most laid back dog you could ever meet. In my eyes the ideal dog.

Best bitch iv'e seen was also a genuine half cross, she was hard on anything edible and often meat was only suitable as hound chow but when the ivories were shown this bitch was a machine, no reverse gear and no slowing down no matter how many were put in front of her.......

I have only seen one bull/grey x saluki/grey and I didn't rate it in any way at all but I wouldn't judge them all on that

why did you not rate it?

Poor - average rabbit dog at best, no bottle at all. She took deer fairly well but still made it look hard. A dog that I found nye on useless to keep.

Sound good dogs them SImoman !! Can't beat an hard dog that doesn't cause trouble with other dogs !

Did they get bred off and if so with what results ?

The dog was put over a good bitch but she didnt take and it was assumed he was firing blanks later in life, the bitch was spayed after a disasterous pregnancy...........

Nice reading gents, thanks. Its great to hear that others also treasure certain dogs/bitches, and admire them at the top of their game. Many of us hunt different quarry, and use different crosses, but we all know a good dog when we see one.

Romany, I admire that bitch Bes even more now! Has that line of lurchers faded away or do some folk still work them? Credit where its due, to have a one-off is one thing but to produce great dogs generation after generation is something to be very proud of.

Great dogs on this thread folks, and the pictures are tops. I guess its a bit like a hall of fame now, a place to talk about our old or current favourite workers.... and everyone has a fave right?

Enjoy the summer everyone, all the best
