3/4 greyXbeddie or 3/4 whipXbeddie....

Recommended Posts

just a thought.....i bred a litter of 3/4 greyX beddie just over 4 years ago....all are doin well an take a variety of quarry....my question is why dont you see more of this cross about ? see plenty of the whippet crosses but not many greyhound ones...from what i've personally witnessed this cross has everything the whip cross has an has the added bonus of overall size an strength advantage..i'm in no way running down the whip crosses .....just wondered what peoples thoughts on this were.....atb..chris..

THEY WERE MORE POPULAR UP HERE AT 1 TIME MATE. HOWEVER I THINK THE LACK OF GENUINE BEDLINGTON BLOOD TO BRING IN & THE RISE IN POPULARITY OF BULL CROSSES FOR QUARRY THAT WOULD BITE BACK LED TO THEIR FALLING OUT OF FASHION/ I KNOW THE OWNER OF YOUR DOGS SIRE & HE WOULDNT HAVE KEPT IT IF IT WASNT A DECENT DOG... B DOWNEY FROM THE PAISLEY AREA KEPT & BRED BEDLINGTON GREYHOUNDS & PRODUCED SOME DECENT ANIMALS ALSO, BUT HE DIDNT HAVE A LARGE GENE POOL, AS ALL ROUND TYPES I HAVE SEEN SOME GOOD DOGS FROM THIS BREEDING :thumbs:2011-04-0219-02-36_0178.jpg

alright mate...well you can vouch for the sire of this litter a bred an also the guy who owns it ....the beddie dogs for me tick so many boxes just wondered why you dont see a lot more of them about.....whos the dog in the pic?? looks like my pups sire who is a second cross from old irish whippet lines an beddie bit is made up of old rillington & doxhope....cheers optimus...atb chris..

I got a 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy, would have liked greyhound in the mix, but when I was buying her there was none around ( at least none that I could find).

She's 11 mnths now and around 19" tts, it's early days but she's broken to the ferrets, started to mark, had a couple of bolters and had a few on the lamp we'll see next season how she goes as she'll be out most weekends with the ferrets and a couple of nights a week on the lamp.

I've only got her for rabbits and I'm sure she'll be fine although in hindsight I think another couple of inches would have been handy for the lamping.

The works began on wearing the missus down for another dog though ( will complete my little bushing pack+ help with lamping), and 3/4 grey 1/4 beddy sounds a good mix to methumbs.gif

its a breeding i have been thinking about lately so im glad this thread has been started. the bull crosses are more popular now but in my opinion i think you would get better hunters from bedlington crosses.

I would say the main problem you would have would be finding decent beddy x greys as there definately seem to be more bull x around, I go out with a mate who runs a big bull X, it's a cracking dog and does what you would expect but it's not the sort of dog for me personally.

I think now with rabbits/rats being legal quarry there seems to be more whippet x beddys ( supply for demandhmm.gif) around than grey x beddys is there enough decent beddy x greys around to compete with the currently more popular bull X..

As I said I found it difficult to find exactly what I wantedthumbs.gif

so in peoples experience how do they compare to bull crosses for hunting and finding quarry in heavy cover and threshes?

i work a 3/4 whippetxbeddy along side a bull cross and the beddy will get under the cover and he stands at 22 tts so not that small and he gets miles more of the game very clever dog he never forgets things good with the stinkers and will work the lamp atb troter
