I have a 7 1/2 month collie greyhound and I've been feeding him twice daily since he was 6 months (he was on four meals until 16 weeks then three until 6months). Sometimes if he's isn't seriously hungry he'll turn his nose up at the morning meal (7am) or eat half-heartedly. But by nighttime (6pm) he's up for eating his dinner. Would I get away with feeding him once daily? Or do you think he'd still be better with two meals per day? Maybe I'm too just good to him????? Thanks. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

My dogs (3 year old JRT and 8 month lurcher) are both now on 1 meal after recently dropping from 2 meals. But i was wondering if 2 smaller meals would be better? Especially for a working lurcher? I know that sports men and women eat 5-6 small meals a day to aid metabolism and muscle recovery etc, would dogs not benefit from 2/3 smaller meals as opposed to just one big meaal? Kile 21 Posted April 22, 2011 Report Share Posted April 22, 2011 yes i have a lurcher and i feed it 2 times a day , i think it keeps the dog going longer. i have also tryed feeding mine once a day and he wasnt any good. Say if you go out at 6am with the dogs feed them at 5 am a small amount tho, i find that the dog has more energy.. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I feed twice a day, main reason for this is - In the winter months I decide if I am going lamping or not depending mostly on the weather, if I decide at 8pm that I am going lamping and my dogs havent ate for 23 or 24 hours I think its to long and will affect the dogs energy. rob190364 2,594 Posted April 23, 2011 Report Share Posted April 23, 2011 I give mine food in the morning and more often than not she won't eat it so I put it back in the fridge and give it to her last thing. She's my first lurcher but she's not like other dogs I've had, if she isn't hungry she won't eat. If she's done a lot of exercise the day before she usually wants 2 meals, if not it's 1.
