terry the rat 1
I have had a job come up with black bees coming down the chimney,I have identified these as Anthrophora plumipes that are obviously burrowing into the morter in the flue. I have told the client that i will tape cardboard over the fire place and when they are gone in the autumn i will put quarter inch weldmesh over the chimneys, but the client wants them gone now,I dont really like killing bees as they are having a hard enough time as it is but if i dont do something i will lose a decent contract that i have ongoing with the client. Any suggestions fellow pest controllers Terry Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
just relocate them ............ Quote Link to post
John Keswick 119
Are you sure you have identified correctly? I have had lots of calls this spring for mason bees and it goes something like this: "I HAVE A WASP NEST" Its a very good year for mason, mining and honey bees. Mason and mining bees cannot be relocated as they are solitary bees, but the good news is they cant sting so just tell the customer to leave them alone and they will be gone shortly anyway. I have tried telling the client that they will be gone shortly but she is an awkward cow and expects me to eradicate them Thanks for your answer Terry p.s And yes I have identified them correctly Edited April 22, 2011 by terry the rat Quote Link to post

Any suggestions fellow pest controllers Terry And if you do kill em you'll get a reputation as someone who can be manipulated into going against your own proffessional instincts....Maybe as someone who is'nt even confident about his own instincts .... Just a step away from being pushed into something dodgy for the sake of not losing a client . You've looked at the problem ,identified it and offered a chemical-free solution .That's good pest control.... Thats what the contractee is paying you for . If they don't trust your judgement or want to take your advice that is up to the customer .Do you need their custom badly enough to get involved in bad pest control?. John Keswick 119
the customer is always right well if i foned a guy an asked him to sort a problem, whatever it maybe, waspsanything if he said no, id then get somebody that will Well that suits me just fine. If you are prepared to employ people that just dont give a shit and prepared to kill something that is harmless, knock yourself out! Quote Link to post
terry the rat 1
I have managed to get the client to allow me to tape cardboard over the fireplace in the room that they are emerging into so now they should start going up to the light instead of down and into the room. There was no way that I was going to spray or dust them, what I was really looking for was a way to discourage them as at first she would'nt let me cover the fireplace. Many thanks for all your answers Did'nt really want to lose the contract as it comes to a nice few quid every month Regards Terry Quote Link to post
