weekye 0
would you be able to get a licence if you had any crimanal covictions, and what convictions would stop you from getting a shotgun licence. cheers Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
it all depends on the seriousnes of the offence, and the area you are applying in, ie some convictions in some areas with high crime are small fry whereas some areas with low crime, some minor convictions are taken more seriously. Deako 0
Depends what convictions you have...some will result in a lifetime ban from possessing firearms (rifles AND shotguns) Quote Link to post

waz77 15
Best thing to do is join BASC,they will help you with your application if you're having trouble,i think as long as you've proven your on the straight n narrow now you've got a reasonable chance, but like i say BASC are your best bet, they have their own legal team who can advise you, good luck Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
best thing to do is speak to a solicitor, first he will advise you and basically tell you if its a goer or not, good luck! Edited February 11, 2007 by thurso jack Quote Link to post
scotrat 2
i also got done for robbery, not the armed type just robbery, also about 20 years ago when i was a teanage rebel i am 40 this year, whats my chances of getting a licence thanks for all your replys. If you join BASC or the SGA both offer legal help when an application has been turned down to excisting members.Meaning join before you apply or they won't offer any help. What part of Scotland do you live.If its Pitt St your application has to go I think you'll have a fight on your hands. Remember you can always call and ask the local Firearms officer what he thinks and you'll get an indication whether he is going to dig his heels in. Good luck mate you'll need it Quote Link to post
FPO 0
Definately worth getting in touch with local Firearms officer, they can be a real bonus to have on your side. Local one to us is female They guys love it, but she is no push over, just fair! BASC sounds like sound option to follow. At the end of the day, Dont give up at the first hurdle, its worth a go If you dont try you will never know. All the best Quote Link to post
charlotte hill 0
My Dad had the same sort of trouble.....( years ago I would like to add ) Got his certificate without too much hassle, it did go in his favour that he joing a local gun club though. Think by being a club member and attending regular event etc....it showed he was serious about his chosen sport and not likely to be using it to rob the local SPAR!!! Quote Link to post
weekye 0
thanks for all the helpful replys, i am going to join the basc before i do anything about it, it just seems the right way to go about this, once again a big thank you to all. Quote Link to post
Guest shay
Had a similar sort of problem, they wouldn't grant mine due to having two drink drive convictions within 5 years of each other, even though they were from years back, the local firearms officer told me to withdraw my application instead of being refused, he said at least when i re-applied twelve months down the line I wouldn't have a refusal on record. BASC is def a good move, Quote Link to post

Foxgun Tom 75
Basc are not the only option open to you The Scottish Association for Countrysports have many dealing with Scottish police firearms depts, we!! also deal with other police forces throughout the UK Our legal team consists of two top lawyers dealing in firearms legislation. Membership of SAC's is cheaper than BASC and membership is open to all in the UK. Anglers, Guns, Falconers, Lurcher and Terrier men are all members of our organisation, wer'e another option to consider??http://www.sacs.org.uk/Sacs/Certificate%20renewal.pdf Tom Edited February 12, 2007 by Foxgun Tom Quote Link to post
