Best thing to do is join BASC,they will help you with your application if you're having trouble,i think as long as you've proven your on the straight n narrow now you've got a reasonable chance, but like i say BASC are your best bet, they have their own legal team who can advise you, good luck

If you join BASC or the SGA both offer legal help when an application has been turned down to excisting members.Meaning join before you apply or they won't offer any help.

What part of Scotland do you live.If its Pitt St your application has to go I think you'll have a fight on your hands.

Remember you can always call and ask the local Firearms officer what he thinks and you'll get an indication whether he is going to dig his heels in.

Good luck mate you'll need it :victory:

Definately worth getting in touch with local Firearms officer, they can be a real bonus to have on your side. Local one to us is female :clapper: They guys love it, but she is no push over, just fair!

BASC sounds like sound option to follow.

At the end of the day, Dont give up at the first hurdle, its worth a go If you dont try you will never know.

 All the best

My Dad had the same sort of trouble.....( years ago I would like to add )

Got his certificate without too much hassle, it did go in his favour that he joing a local gun club though. Think by being a club member and attending regular event etc....it showed he was serious about his chosen sport and not likely to be using it to rob the local SPAR!!!

Had a similar sort of problem, they wouldn't grant mine due to having two drink drive convictions within 5 years of each other, even though they were from years back, the local firearms officer told me to withdraw my application instead of being refused, he said at least when i re-applied twelve months down the line I wouldn't have a refusal on record.

BASC is def a good move,

Basc are not the only option open to you ;)The Scottish Association for Countrysports have many dealing with Scottish police firearms depts, we!! also deal with other police forces throughout the UK Our legal team consists of two top lawyers dealing in firearms legislation. Membership of SAC's is cheaper than BASC and membership is open to all in the UK. Anglers, Guns, Falconers, Lurcher and Terrier men are all members of our organisation, wer'e another option to consider??http://www.sacs.org.uk/Sacs/Certificate%20renewal.pdf
