i can never understand why they put so much energy into racing lurchers, if they bought greyhounds and raced them on the track at least they would have a chance in winning some money. why go through all that bother for a cheap trophy and a ribbon. always just seen the shows a someting to keep you from dying of boredom when the seasons over.

was it not a PUREBRED that won, lurcherworld racing final for 1000 guinees, i'm 100% certain it was, now dont get me wrong , thats a real nice sum of money that was on offer supposedly( for lurchers only), but did'nt the organiser know it was a pure bred, sure he did, to stop a x breed dog winning.

1000 guineas was a open mate, First place was a Whippet/Grey, and second was Greyhound

Thanks,

Roger

an open---- roger, were'nt there qualifying rounds around the country for LURCHERS, not greyhounds, i may be wrong , if i am i put my hands up , but pretty sure i'm not----den

if racing your game and ye want to race a greyhound bring it to shellbourne park and see will it match up there but if lurcher racing your game use a lurcher

bang on

In the old days, shows were started by lads sitting around in pubs for something to do in the summer, they meant nowt in asmuch as how a dog worked ! Same as the racing; there was wee Beddy X's running against great big Deer X's, no muzzles, no "unders", no "overs", etc !! It was a bit of fun ! Now there are dogs bred specificaly for showing or racing;they never see quarry or even have a days mooch in case they break a nail or mess up their coat !! I give my dogs a solo run up at my local Whippet track, just to support the track, and give the dogs a sprint. I agree that some people are running pure Greys and Non-Ped Whippets at Lurcher racing... how sad is that ?? Why don't they race, out of traps against Greys or Non-Peds ? Probably because they'd get whopped !! Still... It does no harm, so let them get on with it !!

Cheers.

whats the differce in racing a ped some of the blokes racing have lurchers bred back to a greyhound for 6 generations at what stage does it become a greyhound and the same might be said about whippet racing here in Ireland seen some whippets standing as tall as the under 23 inch with no height limit or weight limit on whippets Sure if racing is your game just go with the flow and do what it takes to win and good luck to you

any lurcher bred more than 3/4 greyhound is defeating the propuse of creating a lurcher at all we use cross breds to try and get a mixder of the best trates from each breed if we just want speed demons we all might as well just work greyhounds that can be got alot easier and cheaper than a decent working lurcher but be prepared to carry your dog back to the car after a half decent nights lamping

some shows are starting to give good prize money for racing which would be all well and good if it was only lurchers racing
