greyhounds racing as lurchers

Recommended Posts

i got phone call from a lad yesterday asking me if i knew anyone that would be into buying 2 unstamped greyhounds he reckoned that they would be great for racing at shows and that he had sold 3 others from the same litter for that purpose i just would like to see what people think of that and would anyone admit to actually doing it because we all know it goes on but if the dogs are not stamped what can the race organisers do maybe have different class for more greyhound type luchers

was it not a PUREBRED that won, lurcherworld racing final for 1000 guinees, i'm 100% certain it was, now dont get me wrong , thats a real nice sum of money that was on offer supposedly( for lurchers only), but did'nt the organiser know it was a pure bred, sure he did, to stop a x breed dog winning.

whats the differce in racing a ped some of the blokes racing have lurchers bred back to a greyhound for 6 generations at what stage does it become a greyhound and the same might be said about whippet racing here in Ireland seen some whippets standing as tall as the under 23 inch with no height limit or weight limit on whippets Sure if racing is your game just go with the flow and do what it takes to win and good luck to you

the usual old story where a select few dont keep dogs for sport, (as they were intended but keep them for greed) when greed enters sport it always sours the whole thing. same can be said for a lurcher man that sells the odd rabit and then discovers he can actually make a handy living out of it and greed takes over and he ends up wiping out an area because he forgot that they actually can be wiped and dont just magically re-appear. big difference between sportsmen and money men. some will pull any stroke in the book to get an edge over others, thats why alot of old genuine greyhound lads i know got out of the sport, too much fixing and fiddling and less of "the best dog wins". a sad fact im afraid. puppy pedlers, dog dealers, all in the same boat, MONEY MEN.

Spot on mate!Just dont understand why people want to do it, why do some people want to gain an edge by blatantly cheating? you got a greyhound, race against greyhounds. You got a lurcher, race against other lurchers.

1000 guineas was a open mate, First place was a Whippet/Grey, and second was Greyhound

Thanks,

Roger
