Laurence_13 7
Hi, Basicly, I'm 16 and 17 on May 13th. My dad has always had a gun and always shot rabbits, squirrels and foxes. I'm getting bored of trying to get close enough to the rabbits with my air rifle and them running off, so instead of shelling out on a new air rifle, I'm looking at getting my firearms certificate as dad has said I can use his ruger 10 22 if I do. What I want to know is all the can's and can'ts of what I can do at 17, I know I can't purchase or hire guns or ammunition. But use while unsupervised? etc etc. Thanks Laurence Quote Link to post

Can you find a .22 target club you can get to? You can usually have a few sessions where you just pay for ammo. The guys there would be able to answer your questions, easier than posting back and forth, and they would teach you safe gun handling. Don't get me wrong here, I not calling your Da, but if you can say you learned at a club it will go down well with the police when you apply. All the best, and keep us posted! Ric Quote Link to post

Ric The closest gun range is a good 40 minute drive. I've had an air rifle for a few years, so am okay with the gun. I have a 5 acre garden and about 100 acres of farmland, plus all the other farmers land around so hopefully it wont be too hard to get it. I'd love to be able to go to the club, but don't have any means of transport to get there aha I'll let you know what they say though Quote Link to post
Laurence_13 7
Try this: http://www.cambs.police.uk/firearms/young.asp that confuses me aswell I dont understand the 'possess' seems quite ambiguous, is that posess as in own, posess as in hold and use, posess as in I can use it on my own? Damn tables Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
If you have permission over the land and the rifle listed on your firearms licence you may shoot unsupervised. You can not buy a rifle or ammunition, it has to be given or lent to you. Quote Link to post
