Read somewhere that they're thinking of re-introducing the dog licence and giving the Local Council's the power to set the fee. Now if this is true it generally means it's a money making scheme for the LA and there is the possibility of the owner's being fined or the dog being removed if said licence isn't bought. Given how successful it was the first time round I doubt it will take off but if they're serious and they bring in a law to make it compulsory like a tv licence for instance....how many would buy one...a dog licence not a tv licence :icon_eek:

If it does come in it'll be for new dog owners surely; current owners are likely to be exempt i imagine....

what is the reason for introducing this? Other than to take peoples money. It isnt going to help the people who shouldnt own/ cant control there dogs

I wouldn't put it past them to have people who have dogs Impounded have to produce their licence to get their dogs back or RSPCA asking for licence if they turn up at your door with the police

I would get one as i couldent do with the hassel if caught without one same as a rod license.Though the revenue that came from it would be wasted by most councils.Instead of targeting responsible owners with licences i would rather see an out right ban on puppy farms and people breeding more than one litter a year.

well said dell! no need for puppie farming! i would buy one to but i also think f**k it what do i need one for?? what will it do or stop?? what has the DDA done?? has it stopped wankers breeding bulls?? or owning them??

but as its being said above all this will do is give them wankers more money, it wont help dogs or owners! it won't stop puppie farmers, it wont stop little boys selling dogs like toys on here and many other sites!

Again, with a bill for impound fees and at least a weeks worth of charges for bed and board. It could be a real money spinner for local authoritys.

Could have its benefits if the licencing and microchipping scheme were combined but its still a money maker at the end of the day

Maybe it would stop the irresponsible, but I think it would be too costly to enforce, well at least at first.

I think if it were done properly it would be good, but how often has the local authority/government done anything properly.

The thing is if its left to individual concils to set their own rate you could have all kinds of funny prices depending on where you live

That is very true. I think they would be better off doing a one of test and maybe an extra one for larger breeds, a bit like the new bike licence ting.

Think on this lads what if a licence is compulsory but you get caught where you shouldn't be or just stitched up by the plod will they revoke it and how long for?

Taken to the extreme could lead to people being banned from keeping dogs
