had collie crosses decent ones cacth hares deerhoundy collie types catch hares but truthully saluki will be a big help the [bANNED TEXT] type ,as they are agile fast dont carry to much weight have wind ,feet etc ,the best hare dogs ive saw had saluk in there heritage in recent years

The OP wasn't asking if Saluki X's were the "BEST" hare dogs, he asked if a dog "HAS" to have Saluki in it to catch a hare;... The answer is NO !

I've had two 3/4 Grey 1/4 Collie catch hares on the fens, but they didn't catch as many or as regular as a good line bred Saluki type. More like 1/4 rather than 3/3.

We were catching hares with all types of crosses long before the Saluki got popular.
