He threw away his gold medal for his beliefs. If every man and woman on THL email David cameron today explain how they feel perhaps there will be change. Then if you all tell your family, friends and work mates to email him also then perhaps there will be change. If your emails aren't acknowledged demand a reply. Do this every week till you get one. Tell your local T.V or radio station if you don't get a reply. Don't forget that the government work for us. The same as your local council. They are men't to be our humble servants. Stop feeling so powerless. It's infectious and it seems to have infected everyone on here. You can be powerful if you choose. Ali was hated amongst the top knobs within boxing who were white yes,he was certainly not the most hated man on the planet thats just being silly. He went to prison for absolutely nothing to do with religion....he wouldnt serve within the armed forces plain and simple. And when you lie in bed at night thinking about what a shit hole part of london you live in. You can be safe in the knowledge that you did f**k all to change it. I deserted London a long time ago dont worry about that son......i live in an idylic country village surrounded by beauty.....does that make me any less pissed off...no it doesnt,thats called pride in your country and your area.....id give everything i have to be back in that shithole but i refuse to be a foreigner in my own area....and the reality you dont seem to understand is some of us dont have a spare 50 years to dedicate to the task.....for some of us its too late to start doing the pride and glory bit ! In 1967, he was inducted into the military, but he refused to serve, saying his religious beliefs forbade him to fight. By the way he never actually served any time in jail because of this. Wrong ! ....though he did SAY his religious beliefs forbade him to fight he had already failed the writing and spelling tests 3 years earlier meaning he couldnt be drafted anyway,a few years later when the tests were revised he was classified A1 and eligible.....it was only then he came up with the " i got no quarrel with them viet cong " and " war is only declared by Allah " quotes.....he had already refused to be drafted 3 years earlier nothing to do with religion,it was only on Elijah Muhammeds advice that he came out with all the stuff he did as he understood the mass of controversy and recognition for the Nation of Islam that it would create.....also dont forget the conviction was reversed in 1970. no he didnt do any jail time " in prison " was a figure of speech....." charged with " would have been more accurate my mistake Correct! lol. And another thing, all this throwing his gold medal into the drink after being refused a seat in a diner/restaurant is an absolute load of bollocks as well. He misplaced his gold medal when moving house . Ali was a media product that made and still continues to make enormous amounts of money for people. I personally think he wasn't as bright as he liked to think he was, and he is made out to be something that he wasn't. A brilliant fighter though. JMHO K99yle, you're being very naive if you think any MP is going to listen to anything some average Joe has to say on a subject like this, and from my experiences no practising Muslims is going to except anything negative being said about their religion let alone condemn what their holy scripture says. The thing is now they have such a huge community in this country, they don't need to adjust to our way of life and more than that they don't want too, so what's the point in talking to them. I think the chances are we're going to see serious and sustained sectarian violence in the not too distant future.
