RIVERS CLOSED FOR FISHING

As we all no the rivers are closed for fishing this time of year. We had a run up the tees in my boat yesterday to give it a good run as its not been used for a while, anyway we only got about half a mile when we saw the first person fishing by time time we got to yarm we had counted forty three fishermen. So all im saying is whats the point in having a closed season when some of us follow the rules and others do not give a damn. The thing is they know here is very little chance of them getting caught because there is only one ballif from hull to newcastle so im told that is. Why do we need the rivers to be closed anyway the fish breed in ponds and we can still fish them??????????????

What kind of fishing were they doing . The rivers are closed for coarse fishing but the trout season starts at the end of the coarse season. No doubt some people carry on though because they are unaware of the seasons or dont care and some bend the rules by claiming to be trout fishing with worms. Either way the notion that the fish are left undisturbed to breed is not strictly true , the game fishermen still catch them by accident and also some fish breed later in the year when the coarse seasons started again anyway

its stupid all the different rules, i was out again this afternoon and still loads fishing. I was thinking of fishing myself but then thought my luck ill get caght and lose me boat, so instead the grandson and i went golfballing on the river edge alongside a few holes, GOD they need some practice we got 106 balls.

think irelands the same no close season , its just not big time like england where guys can make a living in matches ,its getting bigger up here but still very much in the minority maybe the serious scots course anglers practice a close season but tbh no idea

ive done work on this in my fish husbandry course, its not just about the fish. its about letting the bankside vegetaion grow back on pegs and the ducks etc that are breeding.

Also,many commercial still-waters are artificially stocked and don't rely upon natural regeneration .Based on this arguement I can well understand that commercial and club still-waters can justify staying open all year. Even if it means foregoing the magic morning of the 16th when your float hits the misty water after a three month break in search of the first tench of the season .

On the other hand ,part of the mystery and sporting nature of angling is not knowing what "your" river will turn-up in the coming season after being lightly fished through the winter and rested in the spring .

everything has had a rest -the bank ,the birds and the fish . Also I really can't see any merit in catching spawned-up fish . It is actually illegal to target "unclean fish of any species "-understood to mean ten days prior or ten days after spawning - in any water and if caught accidentally they must be returned imediatly . That means no time for weighing or pictures yet you still see photos of obviously spawn laden fish in the angling press .

Built a bridge and get over it, I know its a pain in the nuts when you stick to the rules, but that slife, there is fcuk all ya can do about it, unless you have his number and ring him, only way these lads will be caught.
