Jill Jab

Recommended Posts

Both my jills have come into season so i took them the vets for the jill jab, one has come out of season after 10 days the other has not, taken it back for another jab which the vet did for free but another week has gone bye and still not sign of it coming out of season, any ideas? I dont wont to breed them this year but will it harm the ferret if it stays in season too long as i have heard unless they are mated or jabbed they will remain in season. Has anyone ever left there ferrets too it and they have come out of season naturally? Thanks, Rich

They can come out of season on their own, but it`s always best to "help" them out of season,

TBH I`ve never liked the Jill jab , tried it and lost the wee ferret so it put me off. But in saying that it should work, especially twice.

Because I`m no expert on the jab,I won`t comment on ideas why it never worked, but will say,, just remember to keep her clean and healthy as long as she is in season to reduce the risks of infection. If she stays inseason then the biggy is to watch out for her becoming lethargic, going off her grub etc,, if she seems out of sorts,, have a good look at her,, check her gums and if they have a blue tinge,, think Anemia! and get a vet to look at her.

For the future though! my choice would be snipped Hob

ATB and let us know how she gets on

Hi Rake Aboot,

hope you don't mind me asking but when you say you tried the jill jab "and lost the wee ferret" what went wrong? Did the vet have any explanation of why the jill died?

Hey Tote,

No not really,, I was young and have in the past thought that maybe I left her too long , she was under the weather a bit when the vet gave the Jab so I can`t lay the blame fully on the jab,, but I`ve never used it again. Just not convinced that a massive inrush of hormones is preferable to them coming out of season naturally (even if it means a few battle wounds)
