mike1458 14
Just on ebay looking at catapult ammo and came across this. Very cheap I thought. I have ordered some. I will let you know how I get on with them. I know only 6mm but big enough for pigeon etc. Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/250-Slingshot-Catapult-Target-AMMO-Hunting-sling_W0QQitemZ400023041228QQcategoryZ117141QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4012.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D12%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8492989489086992024#ht_1120wt_905 ATB Mike
steveS.Yorks 161
Waste of time for hunting mate, not heavy enough to absorb the energy delivered by the bands, makes them unstable/innacurate as well, not fair to use these on live game really, you can get 10.5mm on ebay if you look hard enough, still to light for hunting though in my opinion. mike1458 14
I have 12mm for rabbits etc, but i'm sure 6mm will do enough damage at close enough range with pigeon. ATB Mike
kevin from bristol 95
to small really thats my opinion but good luck
steveS.Yorks 161
My lad had some 6mm steel from ebay,i wouldnt use it on live game myself mate,if ammo is to light for the elastic it cant absorb and therefore impart energy efficiently,it will probably penetrate quite well, but another side effect of light ammo/strong elastic is loss of accuracy. You wont be hunting using an efficient set up Mike i can assure you of that. This pidgeon was shot at around 45ft high using .457 lead roundball and a fairly soft 7mm black square elastic [red kite] i think your 6mm steel would bounce off at that range? yis steve. mike1458 14
Oh I agree 45ft with a 6mm steel would not be effective enough. But I will only be using them for close enough range. I get plenty of woodys in my garden so max shot would be 20ft. I agree that lighter ammo will not be great at any range other than close range. ATB Mike
bush wacker 77
even at 20ft mate they will be no good pigeons feathers act as a shock absorber and they will just bounce off and i they want have enuff punch to kill with a head shot and as steveS.Yorks said they are that light they will be all over the place and making even hitting them in a kill zone pot luck ,if i was you id just stick to the 12mm for all game its all to do with kinetic energy and 6mm want be packing alot and will start loosing it fast after its left the pouch Edited April 17, 2011 by bush wacker
mike1458 14
Ok guys. Your right. After a bit of thinking and actually realising how small they ate, I agree. They will be too small to risk on live game. Just targer practise for me. ATB Mike
mike1458 14
6mm ammo come today. Bloody tiny little things. I agree they would not do anything. I'm sorry for disputing the fact. ATB Mike
