secretagentmole 1,701
Well folks, yesterday was back on the paddock field, hoping to get more bunnies to communicate with their ancestors a damned site more effectively than Derek Acorah. I heard the familiar roar of a couple of EJ200s and looked up to see a Eurofighter lazily circling the sky so decided to try and photograph it. But the camera batteries had died. Don't see these every day so it would have been nice. But by the time I had new batteries in the camera Biggles had bu99ered off! This is the top end of the paddock and if you notice the long grass, has a lot of coney activity. So I decided to move up from my hiding place of the preious day (the friendly thistle skeleton) and camp out in the middle of the field, did not use a shooting mat as the ground was dry and wanted to minimise noise. However the ground has also been used by horses with the average weight of a DAF tractor unit, so the ground was like laying on rocks, none pointing the same way. We do have to suffer for our sport don't we? I then heard a noise that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The incomparable sound of 3 Rolls Royce Merlin engines and 1 Griffon engine... So I shot this with a camera... I probably scared the bunnies down a bit but I do not care, the Lanc is an aircraft that I have family ties to the Lanc and I love seeing this beast chew the sky up. Anyway decided to eat lunch and then got back into position. I say a flash of sandy fur and a rabbit sat up on the left of me, I carefully eased the gun round, lined up and pulled the trigger, I swear it ducked! The pellet missed and the sandy bugs disappeared. Cursing I reset the bolt action. Half an hour went by and thinking I must have spooked them I was getting ready to move when the sandy flash reappeared. Waited until I got a good steady feeding position shot, lined up and then pulled. Thwack and this one bit the dust! No more appeared after that, although I did see Moby Bun scampering around at the bottom of the field. As cover is extremely limited I will have to get set up in the bottom of the paddock and wait. I decided to stalk the track and put a couple of kits in the ditch. But that was an enjoyable afternoon out! Edited as my spelling was awful, cimmunicate indeed!
