gnasher16 30,025
I don't agree that McCloskey wanted a way out, He was never in any trouble or hurt at all up until that point to want to bail out. If anything I thought Amir was slowing down a bit, And as the fight went on it was looking better for McCloskey IMO. Saying that I wasn't convinced he'd win, I just think he'd of provided more of a challenge as the bout went on, and more importantly he should of been given the chance to do so. With McCloskey not complaining??? I thought he was? It could of been confusion on his part initially? You more than anyone on here must know what it can be like when heads come thundering together sometimes. From my own experiences I've found it can be quite confusing to say the least lol. Still it is what it is, McCloskey had his chance and it didn't happen for him. I dont think he necessarily wanted a way out.....but sometimes when a fighter can take a creditable or controversial out in a fight,he actually gains more than he looses, its happened many times.....lets say it went on and the second half of the fight continued the same way as the first,Mccloskey loses convincingly in a 120-108 shut out and its goodbye Mccloskey nice knowing you.....as it was Mccolskey leaves the fight with more questions than answers....and a fair shout at a return in a fight he was clearly losing. That type of head clash he would barely of felt i believe the ref/doc stopped it more due to where the cut was rather than how bad it was.....it was in a bad place to get a cut but the cut itself wasnt too bad and certainly should have been given to the end of the round for his corner to work on it...or else whats a cutman for ? I dont believe Mcloskey was in any way dazed or confused it wont be the first time he,s had blood running in his eyes and wont be the last.....had it been a nobody he was fighting i feel he would have been desperately trying to convince the ref he was fine to go on....as it was,and for the stage the fight was at being 6 rounds down he came out with his reputation relatively intact. Talking about head clashes, I remember talking to a heavyweight called Mark Potter on a Boxing forum about his fight in France against a journey man called Antoine Palaitis. Palaitis proper Buffalo'ed him in the first round and for the rest of the bout Potts was walking around in a complete haze. That was the first loss of his career, as he dropped a points decision to Palatis that night. Not that it has any relevance to this Khan/McCloskey fight, but for some reason this bout come to mind lol .

Ask him what his biggest claim to fame is i guarentee he,ll say beating Joe Bugners son,can you believe that ! He,s had some success in the mma game over the last few years,he was a talented lad could certainly deliver a punch correctly he was unlucky not to go further than he did. I don't know him personally I just posted a few messages to him on the BritishBoxing.co.uk forum. That place got closed down though for one reason or another. Yes I remember that Williams fight real well mate. He was knocking Danny all over the place up until he walked onto that punch. I remember there was some pushing and shoving before the bout after the weigh in and it wet the appetite for the bout lol. I'm sure there was a few decent bouts on that night, can't remember who it was that fought though lol? Williams arm popped out and back in again, then seemed to pop back out again and Potter went for him and got caught with a peach. He got up but was out and went down another twice if I'm remembering the bout properly. I went to the Wembley conference centre for the Danny Williams / Julius Francis rematch, and he fought on there against some Russian fighter and he just seemed to fall apart. I remember he was saying that he had knee trouble before the bout and that he couldn't get himself in proper shape for it, which was a shame because I thought he was better than he showed that night. Another thing I remember about that night was just how roasting hot it was in that place, and you weren't allowed to take a bottle of water in with you . I didn't know he was involved in MMA, best of luck to him if that's what he's choosing to do now .

In fairness to Mark he went on a good run after that loss beating Derek Mcafferty twice before losing to Sprott so id be willing to believe he was carrying an injury into that fight as its a fight he was expected to win. In my opinion Danny Williams was one of the biggest wastes of talent ive seen in recent years he will look back in years to come and have so many " if onlys "....very talented boxer who punched correctly, could take a good shot, knew his way around the ring.......but was far too complicated as a character to ever fully commit to the dedication the sport requires....shame as he,s a nice fella. I'm no hardcore boxing fan, but I thought I saw something special in Williams when he cut loose and destroyed Tyson in their match. Even through Tyson was way over the hill and the bout was a bit of a farce, it was the manner he put him down that caught my eye.

I used to think DannyW was a wasted talent; blowing hot and cold, destroying Tyson then getting iced by Klitschko within 6m However, i read in a boxing mag that 18 months-ish ago, he had had an enormous tapeworm removed from his gut; apparently it'd been there for 7 or 8 years. A symptom of parasitic worms is a lack of energy and motivation (as i found with my pup 6m ago!). Shame it wasn't found earlier because he was one of the most talented UK heavyweights in the last 15 years. Mind you.... He fights under a Lithuanian license , since Chisora beat him; he's had 2 wins as Williams(ski)...... Edited April 19, 2011 by Tomm Parr
Attack Fell Terrier 864
Danny Williams was a complete enigma. Most people will read this and say he's a joke blah blah, because they've not followed his career the way some of us have. Danny Williams had real talent, he just didn't always put it together on the night unfortunately. And like you said his dedication to the sport was lacking to say the least. I remember him laughing and joking about Mr Kipling cakes after a fight, and he's been as heavy as 20 stone for some fights! That's no weight for him to be fighting at. Its actually a Latvian licence he is boxing under as the bbboc refused him a licence after the Chisora fight.....i speak regularly with a lot of folk in the sport at all levels and because Danny is such a nice guy theres a genuine worry he could end up getting hurt....the bbboc is one of the strictest board of controls in world boxing, the fact he has gone to Latvia to continue in the sport he loves indicates to me the downfall of his career,he never really had anyone to guide him,Jim Mcdonnel was a great motivator and conditioner but no trainer has ever got to grips with Danny as a character. He,s invested money so theres no reason for him to fight on apart from the demons in his own mind.....i sincerely hope that doesnt end up costing him healthwise. YOKEL 2,216
dannys 1st fight against skelton was one of the best heavyweight bouts i've seen, an absolute war, old matty could of done with a glove on his head, he used it as much as his fists lol. i remember when the rematch was announced, i was telling anyone who'd listen, you've got to watch this fight, if it's half as good as the 1st...blah blah... what happened, matt decided he was gonna be a counter puncher and danny didn't throw a punch lol, never been so disapointed in a fight... yokel.
