Rey27 83
Just a question lads! Anyone ever had a terrier that starts fights with dogs 85% of the time?? she's fine one minute then just snaps, duno why? She gets plenty of exercise (where there is other dogs) & she gets worked regularly. She is also not very keen on people, she Will bite if given the chance... once again though thats a 50/50. very unpredictable wee dog. good worker though so wouldnt wana give her up... any ideas?? Normally if it's sudden and unexpected it's a combination of fear and lack of socialisation as a pup. Neither of which may be your fault. You could reduce it if you put lots of work into it but I doubt you will ever stop it completely now. Just make sure its not all you as sometimes a dog can do it once for an unknown reason then continue doing it as they pick up on their owners nerves. As said already just live with it and treat her accordingly. If you walking her in public then just keep her away from other dogs and maybe consider a muzzle. I have one that is aggressive to other dogs while he is on the lead so I keep him muzzled for the 100 yards from my house to the field just in case. He is getting better he just f*****g hates collies now. Quote Link to post

If you can put up with it then all the best, personally it would have to have other exceptional traits, or im afraid it would be history. I could put up with a bit of fighting, but a biter i dont think i could keep. Cheers Pernod Quote Link to post

I keep introducing him carefully to friends dogs while on the lead and its got better but its still collies he hates. He must assume old english sheepdogs and collies are the same. You can either spend hours and hours working on her to maybe improve it slightly or just accept it and work around it. Good job she earns her keep as rehoming her would be a bad move imo. STUNTMAN 552
Probably think I'm full of shit and kidding but I'm not. Cattle prod..... Friend showed it to me a few years ago and he kept JRTs. They'ed throw down at a drop of a hat with each other around the kennel and barking was insane. Anyway all he had to do after a few lessons was pic it up and they became "good" dogs. I've used in fights in the dog box and it staightens shit out quick. Hell the old lady picks up the television remote I pick up the prod she puts it down immeaditly and leaves my station on. Quote Link to post
dabigmc 23
well rey27, bought a patterdale dog bout 1yr ago, wanted to fight with his shadow, guy i bought him from sold him because he couldn't control him! He was considered as a lost cause! Had a feeling bout the dog and thought id give it a try......first couple of months kept him muzzled, took out on lead and let him run with the other dogs, any time he tried to cause hassle he'd get nailed by the other dogs because he muzzled, and me, after a while he caught on what was happening! first time he reacted to any of the dogs "I" showed him who's alpha, got it over and done with, which in my mind one good lesson saves dozens of nothing learnt objectivless lessons! since then, Every now and again removed muzzle, only when on lead, rewarded him if went well, if he stirred up muzzle straight back on and scolded! Repeated this practise til i got the result i wanted, and it has worked for me well! I am certain dog was unsocialised when young,so he didn't know any better. Went through 4 different hands before reaching me,and he now the best terrier i ever owned A lot of time and effort went into the terrier, one on one sessions, wasnt easy but well worth it! So if you see any promise in the terrier give it a try! Quote Link to post

Ive got a dog thats just the same,he will work all day with a pack of Black dogs with just the usual scuffle but out in the street or in the park he does my head in he wants to fight everything and if I was to let him off his lead he would so I muzzle him and let him off his lead thinking it could be because he's on the lead but NO still attacks with his muzzle on,can't stop he so I just walk him out the way I have 3 dogs and he is fine with them if its a good dog just put up with it Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Every scrapper I have seen has been a coward when it comes to real work. Hgad a black and tan who tried to take chunks out of my pointer a couple of times who turned into a shitebag from a work perspective. I would not tolerate it. There's better out there so why hold on to a liability. FTB Quote Link to post
